Is sodium chloride acidic or alkaline?

Some people really like chemistry as a subject and find it very magical. Their favorite part should be the chemistry experiment class, where they can see all kinds of chemical instruments and various solutions undergoing magical reactions. But chemistry is also very dangerous. Many experimental solutions are explosive and flammable, so you must pay more attention to safety when studying. Today we will take a look at the acidity and alkalinity of sodium chloride?

Some people think: It’s neutral! pH=7, and NaCl is commonly known as table salt. Let’s explain it from the perspective of ionization: sodium hydroxide is a strong base, hydrogen chloride is a strong acid, and sodium chloride is a strong acid and strong base salt, so the aqueous solution is neutral.

Some people also concluded:

1. Salts need to be ionized, and some need to be hydrolyzed. The mnemonic is: "Whoever is stronger shows his nature"

Example: Strong acid and weak salt show acidity, strong base and weak salt show alkalinity

But if it is a strong acid and a strong base salt or a weak acid and a weak salt, it will be neutral.

2. Not necessarily, for example, NaAlO3 can react with Al(OH)3

2. Acidic salts and alkaline salts can be directly identified by chemical formulas. For example, NaHCO3 is an acidic salt because the H it contains can react with alkalis. Cu2(OH)2CO3 is an alkaline salt because its chlorinated root can react with acids. The determination of the acidity and alkalinity of a salt has almost nothing to do with whether it is an acid salt or an alkaline salt. What matters is whether its solution is acidic or alkaline. For example, the solution of CuCL2 is acidic because Cu2+ will combine with the hydroxide in the water to form insoluble copper oxide, which will intensify the ionization of water, increase the amount of H+, and make the solution acidic. There is usually a sentence that can be used to judge. The stronger one is, the more alkaline it is. That is to say, if the corresponding base of the metal ions that make up the salt is compared with the acid corresponding to the anion, if the acidity is greater than the alkalinity, the salt will be acidic; if the alkalinity is greater than the acidity, the salt will be alkaline. In CuCL2, copper hydroxide is a weak base and hydrochloric acid is a strong acid, so the salt is acidic.

So it can be seen that chemistry is really magical. A simple solution will undergo different changes after mixing. For example, small experiments in life: eggshells disappear when meeting vinegar, baking soda plus water make Sprite, soak eggs in vinegar, and observe for a few days in a row. The shell is gone and it is quite elastic. These are things that happen in life.
