What are the causes of depression

What are the causes of depression

Depression is a common psychiatric disease. Patients with this disease often have low moods, low self-esteem, depression, and even pessimism. Severe patients may have suicidal attempts or behaviors. Therefore, depression is extremely harmful to our health and life. So why do some people suffer from depression? Now let me tell you what are the causes of depression.

1. Personality factors. People with the following personality traits are prone to depression: lack of self-confidence, pessimistic and negative attitude towards things, lack of grasp of changes in life, and excessive worry and anxiety. These personality traits can aggravate the stimulation of psychological stressful events and interfere with the individual's correct handling of the events. Most of these personality traits are developed during childhood and adolescence, when psychological trauma has a significant impact.

2. Genetic factors. If there is a patient with depression in the family, then family members are at a higher risk of developing the disease. This may be due to genetics leading to increased susceptibility to depression.

3. Environmental factors and stress. Strained relationships, big changes in lifestyle, and financial difficulties can all contribute to depression. Sometimes the occurrence of depression is related to physical illness. Some serious physical illnesses, such as heart attack, stroke, hormone disorders, etc., often cause depression and aggravate the original illness. In addition, one-third of people with depression have substance abuse problems.

4. Biochemical factors. Evidence shows that disturbances in brain biochemicals are an important factor in the onset of depression. It is now known that there are disorders in multiple neurotransmitters in the brains of patients with depression; the sleeping patterns of patients with depression are completely different from those of normal people. In addition, certain medications can cause or worsen depression, and some hormones have mood-altering effects.

I believe that after reading the above, everyone has a certain understanding of the causes of depression. Although modern medicine does not fully understand the causes of depression, we also have many ways to treat depression, so patients do not need to worry too much. In addition, we need to give patients more confidence and encouragement, and let them know that they are not fighting alone.
