Blood sugar refers to the sugar content in venous plasma. Normally, the data we measure are all venous plasma values, which are used to determine the level of blood sugar and diagnose diabetes. The level of blood sugar is closely related to the amount of sugar you consume. There are too many foods containing sugar in the daily diet. There are three main ways to measure blood sugar levels: one is blood sugar in the fasting state; the second is blood sugar two hours after a meal; and the third is random blood sugar. So what is the normal blood sugar level three hours after eating breakfast? OGTT test refers to fasting blood sugar below 5.8 after 12 hours of fasting, 10.3 after 1 hour, 8.6 after 2 hours, and 6.7 after 3 hours after taking 75g of glucose orally. If 2 or more of these items exceed the normal level, diabetes can be diagnosed. In your case, your blood sugar level may be above the standard three hours after a meal. What is the upper limit of normal blood sugar after a meal? From healthy people to diabetics, postprandial blood sugar levels are divided into three ranges. The postprandial blood sugar level of healthy people should be less than 7.8 mmol/L; if the fasting blood sugar level is normal and the postprandial blood sugar level is greater than or equal to 7.8 mmol/L but less than 11.1 mmol/L, it can be diagnosed as impaired glucose tolerance (IGT); even if the fasting blood sugar level is normal, but the postprandial blood sugar level is higher than 11.1 mmol/L, it has developed into diabetes. In other words, 7.8mmol/L is the upper limit of normal postprandial blood sugar levels. Exceeding this value means entering the minefield of diabetes. It is quite difficult for most people to adhere to lifestyle intervention, strictly quit smoking, limit alcohol, control diet, and persist in physical exercise. Even if they have already developed diabetes, many patients still cannot strictly implement lifestyle interventions. Moreover, even if all people with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) can receive intensive lifestyle intervention, half of them will eventually develop diabetes. Although lifestyle intervention is a very necessary way to prevent disease progression, lifestyle adjustments alone are far from enough. The 2007 IDF "Consensus on the Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes" points out: When lifestyle interventions alone cannot achieve the expected weight and blood sugar control goals, drug intervention measures should be taken. There are two main types of diabetes, type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. The main defensive approach to type 2 diabetes mellitus is lifestyle intervention as an auxiliary treatment. This type of person is generally not suitable for eating sweets and should not eat fruits with high sugar content. You should also check your blood sugar regularly. It is usually measured in the fasting state two hours after a meal. |
