Treatment of spinal compression fractures

Treatment of spinal compression fractures

I believe some of my friends have had such an experience, that is, spinal compression fracture, which is a disease of bones and joints that are continuously destroyed. Now I will introduce to you its treatment method.

Spinal compression fracture is one of the most common spinal injuries in the elderly. Since most fractures are relatively stable, conservative treatment can be used. The clinical treatment mainly involves lying on a hard bed for immobilization, placing a soft cushion on the injured back, and stretching the back behind the waist. In order to promote recovery from injuries, sick elderly people should carry out rehabilitation exercises in a timely manner under the guidance of a doctor.

Generally, within 3 months after the injury, it is the healing period, and the patient mainly exercises in bed. Rehabilitation exercises should be started as early as possible, 1-2 days after injury, to increase the strength of the waist and back muscles and restore the stability of the spine. The "five-point support method" can be used for waist and back muscle training, that is, the patient lies in a supine position, supports the body with the head, elbows and feet, straightens the waist, and stretches back as much as possible; the patient can also lie in a prone position, straighten the upper limbs and extend them back, tilt the head and chest back, and straighten the abdomen, or straighten the lower limbs and extend them back. Patients with good physical fitness can also extend their upper and lower limbs simultaneously in an arc shape. It is worth noting that this is the healing period of bones. It is necessary to avoid flexion of the spine and not to stand upright and bear weight too early, so as not to aggravate the deformation of the fractured vertebra and affect the healing of the fracture. While doing waist exercises, patients should pay attention to the movements of the joints of the limbs to prevent disuse atrophy of limb muscles, joint contracture and bone decalcification. Rhythmic movement of the joints of the lower limbs can promote blood circulation and prevent thrombosis in the lower limbs. Patients should also strengthen respiratory function exercises to maintain normal lung function. Commonly used methods include deep breathing, pursed lip breathing (like whistling), etc.

The recovery period begins 3 months after the injury. Patients should continue to strengthen their back muscles to prevent subsequent low back pain. At the same time, the flexibility and agility exercises of the spine can be done. The patient can sit on a gymnastics bench and bend the spine in all directions to prevent the spinal cord joints from replacing the waist movements. Training to strengthen the back muscles can be combined with appropriate abdominal muscle training (such as sit-ups).

The above is the answer to spinal compression fractures. The text may not give you the most appropriate answer. If you have any problems, you must seek timely treatment. I hope everyone pays attention to their physical health.
