Which fruits and vegetables have the least pesticides

Which fruits and vegetables have the least pesticides

As the variety and origin of fruits and vegetables on our tables become more and more diverse, the problem of pesticide residues has never stopped. "Which fruits and vegetables may contain more pesticides and which contain less pesticides?" and "How can we minimize the amount of pesticides we eat?" have become the most talked about topics among many people when chatting about daily life. Some people also took this as a business opportunity and started selling fruit and vegetable detoxifiers and pesticide degraders.

So let us find out which vegetables and fruits have less pesticides.

1. Cowpeas and leeks contain a lot of pesticides

Cucumbers and tomatoes contain a lot of fungicides. Cowpeas are more prone to insects, so a large amount of pesticides are used when planting them. Like onions and leeks, the roots of onions are prone to pests such as leek maggots, and they are often sprayed with concentrated pesticides. Some pesticides are highly toxic and easily leave residues. Cucumbers and tomatoes grow in a humid environment and are prone to disease, so they usually require large amounts of medication, especially fungicides. However, compared with pesticides, fungicides are less harmful to the human body.

2. Chinese cabbage is actually a safe vegetable

Chinese cabbage is usually planted in autumn, and only some pesticides are used in the seedling stage to control aphids and diamondback moths. The time from the time the cabbage is put on the market, that is, the time when everyone eats the cabbage, is relatively far, so there are fewer pesticide residues. The same is true for cabbage and lettuce.

3. Greenhouse fruits and vegetables use less pesticides

In greenhouses, physical methods such as anti-poison nets can be used to control pests, so less pesticides are used. In contrast to greenhouse vegetables, open-field vegetables may seem more natural, but it is more difficult to control pests and diseases, and more pesticides are used than greenhouse vegetables.

4. It is safest to eat leafy vegetables in winter

Leafy vegetables are safe in winter and spring and autumn because there are fewer insects and almost no pesticides are used. However, you have to be careful when eating vegetables in the summer, because not only are there many insects at this time, but the greenhouse vegetables have almost been harvested. Most of the vegetables sold in the vegetable market are outdoor vegetables, which have more pesticide residues.

5. Eat more fragrant dishes

Artemisia stalks, Chinese cabbage, coriander, etc. have a strong spicy smell and are natural insect repellents. Since there are fewer insects, these vegetables naturally do not need to be sprayed with pesticides.

6. Among wild vegetables, only fern is the most natural

There are no pesticide residues on the wild vegetables. However, only bracken is a natural wild vegetable that truly grows in the mountains. Amaranth and shepherd's purse are almost all artificially grown. Amaranth requires less pesticides, while shepherd's purse is prone to aphids and requires more pesticides.

7. Don’t be superstitious about fruits and vegetables with worm holes

If there are only insect holes on vegetables and fruits but no insects, it means that the insects have been killed by pesticides. Moreover, vegetables with insect holes are sprayed closer to harvest, so the pesticide is less decomposed and the residue is higher.

8. Fruits with short growth cycles use less pesticides

For example, for cherries, it only takes more than two months from germination to fruit ripening, so it is impossible to use too much pesticide.

9. Fruits from famous production areas have less pesticides

Xinjiang has a dry climate, so there are fewer pests on fruits and vegetables and less pesticides are used. Apples and pears from Shaanxi and Shanxi also have less pesticide residues than those in the south.
