Winter includes six solar terms: Beginning of Winter, Light Snow, Heavy Snow, Winter Solstice, Lesser Cold and Greater Cold. It is important to pay attention to health and maintenance during the coldest season of the year.

Good way to keep healthy

In many places in our country, there is a proverb that goes, "Eat radishes in winter and ginger in summer, and you won't need a doctor to prescribe medicine." Radish has a strong function of promoting qi, and can also relieve cough and phlegm, eliminate dryness and promote salivation, and cool and detoxify. Zheng Banqiao has a couplet about health care that also mentions radish and tea: "Green vegetables, radish, brown rice, and a clay pot of chrysanthemum tea." The health, wellness, and medicinal effects of radish are compatible with those of tea.

Health experts suggest that it is better to eat more hot porridge in winter to maintain health. For example, our country has the habit of eating red bean porridge on the winter solstice and "Laba porridge" on the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month. Eating this kind of porridge regularly can increase calories and nutrition. In addition, you can also eat wheat porridge which nourishes the heart and relieves restlessness, sesame porridge which nourishes the essence and nourishes the yin, radish porridge which helps digestion and reduces phlegm, walnut porridge which nourishes the yin and consolidates the essence, poria porridge which strengthens the spleen and nourishes the stomach, and jujube porridge which nourishes the qi and nourishes the yin.

Tonic needs to be taken in the right way

When taking supplements in winter, in order to allow the stomach and intestines to adapt, it is best to do an introductory supplement first, which means laying the foundation. Generally speaking, you can first choose to stew beef with red dates, peanuts and brown sugar, or you can cook some ginger, jujube and beef soup to adjust the spleen and stomach function.

If you often feel weak in your limbs, mental fatigue, low voice, and sweat when you move, this is mostly due to Qi deficiency. You can choose to take Qi-invigorating medicines such as ginseng, Codonopsis pilosula, Pseudostellaria pseudoginseng, Schisandra chinensis, Astragalus membranaceus, Atractylodes macrocephala, or Codonopsis pilosula paste, ginseng flower paste; foods include soybeans, yam, jujube, chestnuts, carrots, beef, rabbit meat, etc. People with sallow complexion, pale lips, dizziness, weak heartbeat, insomnia, tinnitus and palpitations mostly suffer from blood deficiency. You can choose to take blood-nourishing medicines such as donkey-hide gelatin, longan meat, angelica, cooked rehmannia, white peony, Shiquan Dabu pills and nourishing paste. Foods include sour jujube, longan, lychee, grape, black sesame, beef liver, lamb liver, etc.

Ventilation in cold weather

It's cold in winter, and some people like to close doors and windows or cover their heads when sleeping. This is a very bad habit. In addition to opening doors and windows during the day to allow air convection, small windows should be opened for ventilation at night. Human cells secrete high concentrations of cyclic adenosine monophosphate during the day, which can enhance cell function; and high concentrations of cyclic guanosine monophosphate at night, which has the effect of weakening and inhibiting cell function. The human body's resistance decreases late at night, so the weak and sick should be closely monitored to observe whether their breathing and pulse are normal, so that timely measures can be taken to treat them.
