What happens if you lose your kidney?

Kidneys are very important to everyone. Normally, people have two kidneys, but some people have only one kidney due to illness or other reasons. Everyone knows that kidneys are metabolic organs of the human body. If one kidney is missing, it will have a great impact on the health of the person. However, most people do not know much about this aspect. What will happen if a person has no kidney?

What would happen if a person lost his kidneys?

Not all renal corpuscles are involved in the work of the kidneys. There are about 100-150 renal corpuscles in each kidney, and only 1/3 of them are involved in daily metabolic work. Generally speaking, losing a kidney will not cause metabolic problems, but it does have an impact.

1. Immunity will decrease

Even though one kidney is missing, normal metabolism can still proceed. However, from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, it damages the vital energy and makes one more prone to physical weakness and illness.

2. Minor illnesses become more dangerous

Ordinary coughs and colds are respiratory infections and are common minor illnesses. But for people with kidney problems, respiratory tract infections, digestive tract infections and skin infections may all cause damage to the kidneys.

3. There are more and more things to be careful of

A high-salt diet, high-protein diet, alcohol, drugs, etc. will increase the burden on one kidney. Once a kidney is damaged, there will be no other normal kidney. Therefore, daily maintenance becomes important.

Kidney problems can be seen from the color here

1. Complexion

The "look" in "look, smell, ask and feel" can give us a good understanding of a person's health status. Traditional Chinese medicine describes the complexion of Chinese people as "faintly reddish and yellowish", which is also a healthy complexion. When your face appears in colors other than these, it may be a sign of a physical problem.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, the color black enters the kidneys. When the face is dark or gray, it means that the kidneys are under too much pressure. This may be a manifestation of chronic kidney disease, or it may be caused by excessive kidney damage. It is usually accompanied by soreness in the waist and knees, abnormal urination and decreased function.

In addition, when looking at the complexion, we must also look at the cheekbones. However, if there are symptoms such as soreness in the waist and knees, red and yellow urine, red cheekbones, and dry throat, it may be caused by kidney yin deficiency.

2. Complexion

Complexion also refers to a person's mental state. Whether it is chronic kidney disease as described by Western medicine, or kidney deficiency or kidney deficiency as described by traditional Chinese medicine, it will affect a person's complexion.

Pale complexion, tired look, fatigue, sagging skin, excessive aging, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, etc. are all related to decreased kidney function.

3. Ear color

Everyone's ear shape is similar, but the color of the ears can be affected by physical health. In traditional Chinese medicine, black represents the kidneys, water retention, and blood stasis. Generally, it is better if the ear outline has bright and moist colors. When the ear appears black, dark, or blue, it is generally a sign of kidney disease. At the same time, long-term illness also damages the kidneys, and the ears will appear dark in color after a long illness.

4. Hair Color

The normal hair color should be black and shiny. According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, hair is the residue of blood, which is expressed by the kidneys, and the kidneys’ essence is in the hair. Therefore, hair color and health condition are related to the health of the kidneys.

When the hair turns white, gray, prematurely gray, or dry and yellow, it may be caused by kidney deficiency, deficiency of kidney qi, or insufficient kidney essence. Generally, men will develop gray hair after the age of 40 due to the depletion of kidney essence, especially the elderly. They often eat the same food as their family members, but their hair keeps turning white and falling out. This is a sign of kidney weakness.
