What are deciduous teeth

Baby teeth are the first set of teeth in a person's life, called deciduous teeth. Babies will have 20 teeth when they are about 3 years old, and they will start to lose their teeth before they are thirteen years old. At this time, everyone says that the child is changing teeth. People have two sets of teeth in their lifetime, so everyone should treat themselves and their teeth well. If a child has cavities in the first set of teeth, the second set of teeth must be protected well.

If your child is teething, it is best not to eat hard or sweet food. Try to develop good eating habits and rinse your mouth before and after meals. If there is a problem with deciduous teeth, it may affect digestion and cause stomach diseases. Affects children's development.

Generally speaking, each person grows two sets of teeth in their lifetime[3] . The first 20 teeth to grow are deciduous teeth (baby teeth). Deciduous teeth begin to erupt at around six months old and are fully grown at around two and a half years old. Between the ages of six and twelve, deciduous teeth gradually fall out and are replaced by permanent teeth one by one. The normal range of the number of permanent teeth is 28 to 32, but each person's situation varies. Less than 28 teeth are congenitally missing permanent teeth or impacted teeth in the jawbone (impacted teeth); more than 32 teeth are supernumerary teeth (also called extra teeth), the number of supernumerary teeth varies, and the shape is special. As for the phenomenon of the third set of teeth, there have been reports of it, but its probability in humans is only 1/1 million.

The protection of deciduous teeth begins during the calcification period of deciduous tooth enamel, which is from the 4th month of pregnancy to the first year after the baby is born. Pregnant mothers should pay attention to calcium supplementation and refuse to smoke or stay away from secondhand smoke. Medical research shows that frequent smoking or passive smoking by pregnant mothers can cause deformities in the maxillofacial or oral development of the fetus, leading to many dental problems and periodontal diseases. In addition, medications must be used with caution during pregnancy. Many medications are harmful to your baby's oral and dental development.

Try to breastfeed your baby and let him suck breast milk vigorously, which is beneficial to the normal development of the maxillofacial region. If artificial pacifiers are used improperly during artificial feeding, it can easily cause facial and dental abnormalities. When artificial feeding is necessary, you should choose a pacifier that imitates the nipple design. Train your baby to use cups and bowls to eat as early as possible to avoid becoming dependent on bottles. In addition, breast milk can inhibit the growth of bacteria on teeth and prevent tooth decay.

If a child develops tooth decay during the period of deciduous teeth, adults must pay attention to it. Children with deciduous teeth cannot chew normally, and it will lead to picky eating in the long run. Therefore, we should cultivate the good habit of brushing teeth and protecting teeth from a young age. Eat less snacks, sweets and other foods.
