What to do if your skin is dry and itchy in winter

The weather is cold in winter. Although we are wrapped in thick coats, our skin is not as comfortable as in summer. When winter comes, I always worry about dry skin, because my skin is not only dry but also itchy. If I scratch it a few times, there will be skin flakes, which makes me lose confidence in my skin. Why is this? What should we do if our skin is dry and itchy in winter? In fact, this problem is not only a concern for women, men also encounter the problem of dry and itchy skin in winter.

Dry and itchy skin refers to the thickening and roughening of the skin due to seasonal changes, dehydration and anemia. In autumn and winter, the body's sebum and water secretion will gradually decrease, and the skin will become noticeably drier, especially for middle-aged and elderly people. Due to the significant loss of water, the skin surface will appear rougher, and their hands, feet, limbs, and calves will often be seen to be dry and itchy. Unable to bear the dryness and itching, they will constantly scratch, causing wounds on the skin, causing inflammation or pus discharge.

Tips for dry and itchy skin in winter:

1. Remember not to scratch your skin if it itches.

Scratching an itch with your hands actually increases the irritation to the skin, causing pain to the skin, thus covering up the itchy sensation. Over time, proliferative changes will occur on the skin surface. The roughness and thickening of the skin is itself a stimulation to the peripheral nerve receptors, which will aggravate the itching and form a new conditioned reflex. The result is that the itching becomes more and more serious, creating a vicious cycle.

2. Remember not to use hot water if your skin is itchy

Some people may have this experience: when they feel itchy, they take a hot bath to relieve the itch. However, the end result is often more burning and itching. This is because taking a hot bath, due to frequent scalding and soap scrubbing, will cause the insufficient fat film on the human epidermis to be lost, and even the normal moisture content on the skin surface will be difficult to maintain, so it will become more itchy. It seems that this method of relieving itching is not advisable.

3. Avoid eating fried, spicy and irritating foods, wear loose cotton clothes, and do not wear only woolen sweaters or clothes that make your skin feel uncomfortable.

What should we do if our skin is dry and itchy in winter? In fact, we should prepare to moisturize our skin in advance in autumn, take good care of it and maintain it. If female friends want to be beautiful, they cannot be lazy women. In addition, they should pay special attention to their diet and avoid spicy food.
