What to do with hydronephrosis

Hydronephrosis is a common condition in our lives, mainly caused by kidney stones or urinary tract inflammation. We should treat hydronephrosis in time to avoid abdominal cramps and uremia in patients. For the treatment of hydronephrosis, we can drain the accumulated water through surgery. If the hydronephrosis is severe, we should follow the doctor's advice and get a kidney transplant.

The appearance of symptoms of hydronephrosis indicates that the condition has become serious to a certain extent. Hydronephrosis is usually a secondary disease caused by urinary stones, tumors, inflammation and tuberculosis. It does not have any specific symptoms. Hydronephrosis will only cause severe cramping pain if the patient's abdomen is completely blocked. Symptoms include vomiting, decreased urine output, etc. Long-term obstructive stones can cause decreased kidney function. If both kidneys or a single kidney is completely blocked, no urine will be excreted and renal failure may result. If early intervention and treatment are not carried out, uremia is likely to occur. It should be noted that this is difficult to cure. Here we also remind everyone not to ignore mild hydronephrosis and not to place too much hope on its own recovery. Generally, hydronephrosis that we can detect and have indications for requires certain intervention treatments.

If the hydronephrosis is severe due to the lack of certain intervention treatment in the early stage, and simple removal of the hydronephrosis can no longer restore renal function, nephrectomy can generally be considered. When the hydrops is severe, there is too little renal parenchyma remaining, or there is a severe infection, i.e. renal abscess, the diseased kidney will need to be removed if the contralateral kidney is functioning well.

When treating mild hydronephrosis, the patient's age and physical function should be taken into consideration. For hydronephrosis caused by urinary tract obstruction, surgery should be performed to remove the obstruction or eliminate ureteral stenosis and reconnect to keep the ureter open. The surgical treatment of hydronephrosis should be based on the cause, incidence, severity, infection and renal function impairment, combined with comprehensive indicators such as the patient's age and cardiopulmonary function.

If you have hydronephrosis, you should go to a regular hospital for treatment in time without delay. It is not advisable to expect mild hydronephrosis to heal itself. Doing so will not only aggravate the condition, but also cause the patient to experience greater physical and mental torture. Early diagnosis and early treatment are the best ways to treat mild hydronephrosis, rather than relying on luck.
