【Usage and Dosage】

1. Common dosage for adults

(1) Intestinal amebiasis: 0.4-0.6 g each time, 3 times a day, for a course of 7 days; extraintestinal amebiasis: 0.6-0.8 g each time, 3 times a day, for a course of 20 days

(2) Giardiasis: 0.4 g each time, 3 times a day, for a course of 5 to 10 days

(3) Guinea worm disease: 0.2 g each time, 3 times a day, for 7 days

(4) Balantidiasis: 0.2 g each time, twice a day, for 5 days

(5) For cutaneous leishmaniasis, 0.2 g each time, 4 times a day, for a course of 10 days. Repeat the course after an interval of 10 days.

(6) For trichomoniasis, take 0.2 g each time, 4 times a day, for a course of 7 days. You can also use suppositories at the same time, insert 0.5 g into the vagina every night for 7 to 10 days.

(7) For anaerobic infection, take orally 0.6-1.2 g per day, divided into 3 doses, for a course of 7-10 days.

2. Common dosage for children

(1) For amebiasis, take 35-50 mg/kg of body weight orally three times a day. A course of treatment is 10 days.

(2) For giardiasis, take 15-25 mg/kg of body weight orally three times a day for 10 consecutive days. The dose for treating dracunculiasis, balanitis, and trichomoniasis is the same as that for giardiasis.

(3) For anaerobic infection, take orally 20-50 mg/kg per day based on body weight.

【Adverse Reactions】

Adverse reactions occur in 15% to 30% of cases, with gastrointestinal reactions being the most common, including nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and abdominal cramps, which generally do not affect treatment; neurological symptoms include headache, dizziness, occasional paresthesia, limb numbness, ataxia, multiple neuritis, etc., and high doses can cause convulsions. A small number of cases develop urticaria, flushing, itching, cystitis, dysuria, metallic taste in the mouth, and leukopenia, all of which are reversible and recover on their own after stopping the drug.

(1) Interference with diagnosis: The metabolites of this product can make urine dark red.

(2) The dosage should be reduced for patients with existing liver disease. The drug should be discontinued if movement disorders or other central nervous system symptoms occur. A white blood cell count should be performed before repeating a course of treatment. For patients with anaerobic infection and renal failure, the dosing interval should be extended from 8 hours to 12 hours.

(3) This product can inhibit alcohol metabolism. You should abstain from alcohol during medication. Drinking may cause abdominal pain, vomiting, headache, etc.

(4) This product has a strong irritation to the stomach and should be taken after meals
