Plum blossom needle treatment of myopia

The exact pathogenesis is still being explored. Conventional methods for treating adolescent accommodative myopia include acupuncture, electroacupuncture, plum blossom needle, pulsed electrical stimulation, laser irradiation, magnetic therapy, etc. However, they have problems such as long treatment course, poor efficacy, easy recurrence, and difficulty in persistence. Based on the characteristics of periocular acupoints, such as superficial acupoints, thin and delicate ocular surface skin, rich blood supply, dense meridian circulation, easy acupoint stimulation and drug absorption, as well as the pathogenesis of adolescent accommodative myopia, the author created a self-made "plum blossom myopia needle" to prick the "four acupoints" around the eyes. It has the characteristics of low irritation, short treatment course, quick effect and good patient compliance.

2. 1. The diagnostic criteria for myopia refer to "Ophthalmology" and are classified according to the degree of myopia. Generally, when the accommodation is relaxed, parallel light rays focus in front of the retina after passing through the eye's refractive system, which is called myopia. Mild myopia: less than -3.00 D (accommodative myopia); moderate myopia: -3.00 to 6.00 D; severe myopia: more than -6.00 D.

2. Contraindications of "self-made plum blossom needle" include those who are allergic to Chinese medicine or cannot tolerate skin irritation; those with local skin ulcers or infectious diseases.

3. Treatment methods 3.1 Homemade plum blossom myopia needle The selection of acupoints for the treatment of accommodative myopia with homemade “plum blossom myopia needle” is basically the same as that for filiform needle, except that the stimulation range of each acupoint is slightly enlarged to 0.5-1.2 cm and can be extended to the entire eye area. The "Plum Blossom Myopia Needle" has the characteristics of being flat-topped and without a sharp edge, being less irritating, having good patient compliance, and being easily accepted by teenagers.

3. Make the model: Use the steel-plastic materials commonly used in current medical devices to make the plum blossom myopia treatment needle according to the various parts of the graphic. 1) Needle body: 7 pieces, 10 mm long, 1 mm in diameter, stainless steel capillary tube; 2) Medicine pot: 35 mm long, 13 mm in diameter, 10 mm in inner diameter, cylindrical; 3) Piston: located at the top and bottom of the medicine pot respectively, the rubber plug has a diameter of 10 mm and a thickness of 4 mm; 4) Needle handle: 173 mm long, 7 mm wide, 2 mm thick, the plastic soft handle has moderate hardness (with a certain degree of elasticity). 1-3 connection: pass the needle body 1 through the piston 3 at the bottom of the medicine bottle, seal it with glue, and polish the needle tip to be smooth, round, and flat-topped so as not to hurt the skin. 1-3-2 connection: Connect the connected 1-3 to the medicine pot 2 to ensure that the medicine pot 2 is connected to the needle tip 1. 1-3-2-4 connection: make a small flat hole symmetrically 5 mL below the upper end of the needle body 2. The size of the hole matches the front end of the needle handle 4. The front end of the needle body 4 is slightly narrower than the needle handle and has a length of 16 mm. Use glue to fix 4 to the connected 1-3-2 (or use a 16 mm needle handle 4 to directly cut onto the needle body 2). 1-3-2-4-3 connection: Install a piston 3 at the upper end of the connected 1-3-2-4 to prevent the medicine liquid in the medicine pot 2 from flowing out when tapped, see Figure 1.

4. Preparation process

Use homemade plum blossom myopia needles (one set per person to prevent cross infection) and disinfect instruments (75% alcohol, sterilized cotton balls, curved plates, tweezers, and tweezers cylinder). Select treatment sites: four eye acupoints (Jingming, Tongziliao, Zanzhu, Sibai). Local disinfection of the patient: The patient lies on his back, exposing the acupuncture site, and disinfects the area around the "four points" with 75% alcohol to prevent alcohol from hurting the eyes. The plum blossom myopia needle is filled with the "four flavors" of distilled and purified Chinese medicine (astragalus, curcuma, chrysanthemum, and menthol). The tapping process

The patient closes his eyes, and the doctor holds the needle handle with the right thumb, middle and ring fingers, and presses the index finger on the needle handle, using the elastic force of the wrist to tap the needle, so that the needle tip rises and falls easily and naturally on the part to be tapped. The needle bounces back immediately after touching the skin. You are required to apply even force and hold the needle steadily. When tapping, the tip of the "plum blossom myopia needle" should be perpendicular to the skin around the eye, and tap Jingming, Zanzhu, Sibai and Tongziliao in turn. The severity of tapping: The severity of tapping depends on the condition of the disease. For patients with a short course of illness and mild myopia, light tapping can be used; for patients with a long course of illness, severe myopia and long-term treatment failure, heavy tapping can be used; the intensity of tapping should also be different for patients with different physical constitutions. The tapping intensity can be slightly greater for patients with better physical constitutions, and slightly less for patients with worse physical constitutions. The degree of relief is when local redness occurs but no bleeding occurs.
