What is the stratum corneum

What is the stratum corneum

To explain what the stratum corneum is, we must first talk about the skin. The skin is the largest organ in the human body, covering the outermost layer of the body and protecting our internal organs and other important organs. The skin is divided into the epidermis and dermis, and the stratum corneum is the outermost layer of the epidermis. It is made up of dozens of layers of dead cells. Dead cells in the stratum corneum are constantly falling off.

With the metabolism, new dead cells appear on the epidermis and are added to the stratum corneum, forming a process of continuous replacement. The dead cells that fall off from the stratum corneum form dust, which is what we often call dead skin. The normal cycle of the skin is about thirty days, but as the human body ages, the metabolism becomes slower and slower, and the skin's cycle also becomes slower and slower. Therefore, the dead cells in the stratum corneum will fall off very slowly, which can easily lead to accumulation of the stratum corneum and form very thick dead skin. In this case, it is necessary to deliberately remove the stratum corneum to promote cell regeneration.

What are the signs that the stratum corneum is too thick? If the skin feels rough and the skin surface has no luster, it means that the stratum corneum is too thick. At this time, some methods are needed to remove the stratum corneum. For example, bathing with bath salts and washing your face and feet are very effective ways to remove the thick stratum corneum. However, we must remind everyone that you should not exfoliate the stratum corneum excessively, because the stratum corneum has the function of protecting the skin and preventing the loss of water in the human body, that is, it acts as a protective film. Therefore, if the stratum corneum is exfoliated excessively, the skin will lose protection and become fragile and sensitive, and it is easy to be threatened by trauma or bacteria.

Excessive removal of the stratum corneum will not only fail to make the skin shiny, but will easily cause redness and swelling of the skin. Therefore, the view that the stratum corneum is waste is completely wrong. The relationship between protecting the stratum corneum and removing the stratum corneum should be handled correctly. The most important thing is to grasp the "degree". Only by mastering the "degree" can our skin be healthier.
