Seven common mistakes parents make with their children

Seven common mistakes parents make with their children

You may not be able to avoid all parenting pitfalls, but thinking before you act will help you avoid making big mistakes.

Children don't come with instruction manuals, so how do you know if you're making a mistake with them? This is not an unsolvable problem. By using your brain to come up with some solutions, you can avoid these problems.

1. Denying Your Child Is Overweight

If your child is overweight, be careful about what you say. Don't dwell on your child's size or make fun of him or her.

It doesn’t matter whether you have a perfect body shape or good looks, as long as you are healthy.

Again, it is children's nature to imitate others. Therefore, if family members or parents are obese, do not eat healthy foods, and do not exercise actively, your children will not develop healthy eating habits either.

2. Not caring about what you say (and how you say it)

Many times, parents come across as nagging and critical.

If you don't really mean to praise your child, don't praise him. "If you always praise your child, it will seem unreliable. It is more effective for parents to be specific in their praise. For example, 'Thank you for cleaning the room. You are a responsible child and I am proud of you.' Just tell your child how you feel."

3. Inconsistency between words and actions

The quickest way to make a child disobedient is for the parents to do what they say. Carefully recall your previous words and actions to see if you have always been a good role model and whether what you are doing is what you ask your children to do. ”

4. Delaying talking to your child

Puberty begins as early as age 9, and it's especially important to talk to your child about the physical changes that occur during puberty.

5. Not seeing a doctor every year

Such routine checkups are not just recommended for young children. Parents should also sit down with their pediatrician once a year to discuss their child's physical health and development, including their need for increased calcium levels to stay healthy.

6. Not caring about school violence

Violent incidents occur frequently in schools.

We sometimes see children coming home sad and depressed. It is normal to have exam stress, but parents must make sure if there is anything else happening at school and at home besides the exams.

7. Over-scheduling

You may be tempted to schedule this and that for your child, but over-scheduling your child can affect their academic performance. Therefore, parents should handle it appropriately so that they can achieve their academic goals and participate in extracurricular activities. Different children have different needs, and they don’t want to be too hard after school. Perhaps it would be a good idea to listen to your children’s suggestions.
