Can I drink salt water if I have heat stroke

Symptoms of heatstroke are more common in summer, mainly caused by exposure to the sun. At this time, the body will become dehydrated. It is correct for us to drink light salt water, which can promote water absorption and replenish electrolytes. Whether it is symptoms of heat stroke or after exercise, it is more suitable for us to drink light salt water, which can cool down, quench thirst, and replenish water.

Drink some light salt water after suffering from heatstroke.

The correct way is to let the patient drink light salt water immediately, because when the human body sweats a lot, the sweat takes away a lot of inorganic salts, such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, etc. All of these require salt to supplement. Drinking cool, light salt water at about 10°C can quickly cool down, quench thirst and relieve heatstroke. Drinking water should be done in small amounts and multiple times, with no more than 300 ml each time. The amount of water you drink per hour should not exceed 1 liter. Avoid continuous drinking, because drinking a lot of water will not only dilute the gastric juice and affect the digestive function, but also cause reflex hyperhidrosis, causing further loss of water and salt in the body, which can lead to heat cramps in severe cases.

If you find someone suffering from heatstroke, carry the patient to a ventilated and cool place, lay him/her on his/her back with his/her head elevated, undress him/her, and let him/her rest quietly. You can use cold water baths, electric fans, ice packs on the head and precordial area and other measures to quickly lower your body temperature. At the same time, you need to replenish lost water in a timely manner.

Do not eat raw, cold fruits and greasy food after having heatstroke, so as not to increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract, causing a large amount of blood to remain in the gastrointestinal tract and a relatively reduced amount of blood transported to the brain. The body will feel more tired and more likely to cause indigestion.

What should I do if I experience symptoms of heat stroke under the scorching sun or in a hot environment?

1. Move. Move the patient to a cool and ventilated place, elevate the head, and loosen clothes to facilitate breathing and heat dissipation.

2. Apply. Compress the head with warm water first, then change to cold water or ice water.

3. Drink. Drink salt-containing beverages and intravenously drip 500-1000 ml of normal saline.

4. Needle. For those with body temperature above 40 degrees Celsius and symptoms of heat stroke such as coma and convulsions, acupuncture or acupressure on the Ren Zhong, Nei Guan, Zu San Li, Shi Xuan and other acupoints should be performed immediately. 5% sugar saline can also be given intravenously.

5. Wipe. Due to high temperature, high humidity and no wind, it is difficult for the body to dissipate heat. Use cold or ice water to wipe the skin until it turns red, cover the body surface with a wet towel, place ice packs on the head and large blood vessel distribution areas, and you can also use drugs to reduce temperature, such as chlorpromazine, hydrocortisone or dexamethasone.

How to prevent it?

The best way to prevent heatstroke is to strengthen labor protection, avoid direct exposure to sunlight, shorten or reduce continuous working time under the scorching sun or in high temperature environment, replenish body fluids at any time, and drink more anti-heat and cooling drinks, especially when sweating profusely.
