Causes of duodenal cancer

Causes of duodenal cancer

The cause of duodenal cancer may be related to multiple factors such as genetics, environmental factors, physiological factors, trauma and other pathological diseases. Understanding these causes will help with early prevention and timely intervention.

1. Genetic factors

Duodenal cancer in some patients may be closely related to heredity. If there is a history of digestive tract cancer, such as colorectal cancer or gastric cancer, the risk of duodenal cancer may increase. This is related to inherited gene mutations (such as APC gene mutations or Lynch syndrome-related gene mutations). People who need to pay attention to family history should have regular digestive tract examinations and see a doctor as soon as possible if they have symptoms.

2. Environmental factors (influence of external factors)

Environmental factors are important causes of duodenal cancer, such as carcinogens in the diet and smoking and drinking habits. Excessive intake of high-fat foods, pickled foods and red meat may increase the risk of digestive tract cancer, while a diet rich in fiber such as vegetables and fruits can help reduce the risk. Harmful chemicals in tobacco and excessive drinking can cause long-term irritation to the duodenal mucosa and may accelerate the process of cancer. It is recommended to adopt a healthy diet, consume more dietary fiber, and avoid smoking and drinking.

3. Physiological factors (influence of personal factors)

Certain physiological conditions may also increase the risk of duodenal cancer, such as bile reflux, chronic inflammatory stimulation, and excessive gastric acid. Abnormal secretion of bile or gastric acid can stimulate the duodenal mucosa, and long-term excessive stimulation may lead to cell proliferation and cancer. For such people, it is recommended to undergo a gastrointestinal endoscopy and, if necessary, use drugs to control gastric acid secretion, such as the use of proton pump inhibitors (such as omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole).

4. Traumatic effects

Long-term unhealed duodenal ulcers may induce cancer. The duodenum is often mechanically damaged by food, gastric acid, etc., especially chronic ulcers that are not treated in time or are improperly handled. The inflammation repair process will lead to abnormal proliferation of mucosal tissue and increase the risk of cancer. For patients with ulcers, it is recommended to use antibiotics under the guidance of a doctor to eradicate Helicobacter pylori infection and take drugs to protect the gastric mucosa.

5. Pathological diseases

Chronic diseases such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and pancreatic diseases may be the cause of duodenal cancer. These diseases often cause repeated inflammation of the entire digestive system and increase the probability of cancer. For patients with these chronic digestive diseases, regular digestive endoscopy should be reviewed and scientific treatment should be received under the guidance of a doctor to reduce the risk.

Understanding the causes of duodenal cancer can help to better prevent and treat it. In daily life, maintaining healthy eating habits, quitting smoking and limiting alcohol consumption, regular physical examinations, and timely treatment of chronic gastrointestinal diseases can effectively reduce the risk of cancer. If you find symptoms such as indigestion, weight loss, and anemia, you should go to the hospital for examination and treatment as soon as possible. Early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer are the key to improving the survival rate of patients.
