Chinese medicine enema for treating renal failure

Chinese medicine enema for treating renal failure

Kidney failure is a very serious disease for the human body, and most of them are caused by chronic kidney disease. After suffering from kidney failure, our kidney function will slowly decline, and our body will be seriously threatened at this time. Drugs that can treat kidney failure are rare in clinical practice. Chinese medicine enema treatment is a relatively effective method. So what is the principle of Chinese medicine enema treatment of kidney failure?

Chronic renal failure is caused by the decline of renal function in the late stage of various chronic kidney diseases. The clinical manifestations are water, electrolyte and acid-base imbalance and a series of systemic poisoning symptoms caused by toxin storage. Chinese medicine enema is aimed at the above characteristics to establish an effective "non-dialysis" detoxification system in the colon cavity, fully develop and utilize the potential functions of the intestinal mucosa, regulate water and electrolyte balance, stabilize the internal environment, and improve its clearance rate of toxic solutes in the body and "potentially toxic compounds" absorbed by the colon, so as to achieve the purpose of treating renal failure and uremia. It is a new drug administration and treatment method for treating renal failure and uremia, following oral administration and injection.

As early as the Eastern Han Dynasty, the medical saint Zhang Zhongjing recorded the honey decoction method and pig bile method in "Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases", which pioneered the rectal medication of traditional Chinese medicine. After the Tang Dynasty, successive generations of doctors continued to use and develop this method of medication, but it was still mainly used to moisten the intestines and promote bowel movements in patients with constipation. In modern times, Chinese medicine enema therapy has emerged to treat constipation, intestinal parasitic diseases, ulcers, local anal diseases, etc. After the 1970s, the application of this therapy has become increasingly widespread. It is not only widely used in the treatment of hundreds of common diseases in various clinical departments, but also because its administration method is not affected by the patient's swallowing function and upper digestive tract, it is absorbed quickly and the drug effect is exerted quickly, making it a commonly used treatment method in traditional Chinese medicine. In particular, Chinese medicine enema can treat chronic renal failure, which can increase the excretion of blood creatinine, urea nitrogen, etc. through the intestines. It plays an irreplaceable role in the field of kidney disease and greatly exerts the advantages and characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine in the conservative treatment of uremia. Currently, there are two commonly used methods in clinical practice: Chinese medicine retention enema and Chinese medicine rectal drip.

Indications of Chinese medicine enema therapy:

1. Early, middle and late stage renal insufficiency; especially patients with chronic renal insufficiency, renal failure and uremia with blood creatinine above 1000umol/L.

2. Edema and ascites; especially suitable for patients with severe edema and hepatic ascites caused by acute nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, etc.

3. Patients with gastrointestinal dysfunction such as nausea, vomiting, wrist and abdominal distension caused by electrolyte imbalance and metabolic acidosis.

Advantages and features of Chinese medicine enema therapy:

1. It fully complies with the requirements of "treatment based on syndrome differentiation" of traditional Chinese medicine, and can timely inject the selected prescriptions and medicines based on syndrome differentiation at different times into the rectum, directly reaching the diseased area or distributing them throughout the body after absorption, so as to exert the overall therapeutic effect.

2. It is beneficial to maintain the improvement of drug performance and efficacy. The ratio of total absorption from rectal administration to total absorption from oral administration is 5:1, which is no different from the total absorption from intravenous administration. The bioavailability of rectal administration is increased by 100% compared with oral administration.

3. Rectal administration of Chinese medicine can accelerate the time to take effect and improve the efficacy. Part of the absorbed drug does not pass through the liver but directly enters the blood circulation, which can prevent or reduce chemical changes in the drug in the liver and change the drug's properties. It can also reduce the drug's toxicity and side effects on the liver.

4. It makes up for the shortcomings of oral administration, alleviates the limitations of being unable to swallow due to drug rejection or dysphagia, oral confinement, etc., and increases medical means. High-level enema of drugs not only prevents the active ingredients from being easily digested and destroyed, but also facilitates the absorption of the intestinal mucosa and can avoid the patient's vomiting reaction.

5. Rectal administration is absorbed faster and more regularly than oral medication, the therapeutic effect lasts longer, the efficacy is more reliable, and enema therapy is simple and easy, without complications.
