The difference between bile duct cancer and liver cancer

The difference between bile duct cancer and liver cancer

The difference between bile duct cancer and liver cancer lies in the different locations of disease, causes and symptoms.

1. Cholangiocarcinoma

It refers to a malignant tumor from the extrahepatic bile duct, including the bile duct from the liver portal area to the lower end of the common bile duct. The cause of the patient may be related to diseases such as bile duct stones, bile duct dilatation, and primary sclerosing cholangitis. The patient may experience persistent jaundice that gradually worsens, as well as symptoms such as upper gastrointestinal bleeding, ascites, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, and weight loss. Surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other methods can be used in clinical practice, but the prognosis is poor.

2. Liver cancer:

Liver cancer is a malignant tumor of the liver, and its etiology and mechanism are not fully understood. It is considered to be a complex process with multiple factors and steps, which may be related to hepatitis C virus infection, aflatoxin, drinking water pollution, alcohol, cirrhosis, etc. The main symptoms of patients include liver pain, abdominal distension, malaise, weight loss, progressive hepatomegaly or upper abdominal mass. Clinically, surgical treatment, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other means can be used.
