Can stage 3 colon cancer be cured?

Can stage 3 colon cancer be cured?

Stage III colon cancer is a mid-to-late stage tumor. At this time, the tumor cells have metastasized to the lymph nodes, including the colon wall, paracolonic, mesenteric and mesenteric root lymph nodes. Since surgery cannot remove all tumor cells, comprehensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy are required after surgery to improve the surgical resection rate. Although stage III colon cancer may be cured, its cure rate is significantly lower than that of early stage colon cancer. It generally includes the cure rate range, treatment methods, prognosis and follow-up.

1. Cure rate range: The cure rate of stage III colon cancer is about 50%-70%, depending on the specific condition, treatment plan and individual differences. Stage III colon cancer can be further divided into three different subgroups: ⅢA, ⅢB and ⅢC. The survival time and cure rate of different subgroups are different. Among them, the 5-year survival rate of stage ⅢA can reach about 70%, while the cure rate of stage ⅢC will drop significantly, even less than 50%.

2. Treatment: Surgical treatment. If surgical treatment is still possible, radical colectomy and lymph node dissection are generally required to prevent the spread and metastasis of cancer cells and aggravate the condition. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy can effectively kill the remaining tumor cells and reduce the recurrence rate; radiotherapy can kill tumor cells and reduce the tumor load. Targeted drug therapy is a treatment method that targets specific molecular targets of tumor cells and can kill tumor cells more accurately.

3. Prognosis and follow-up: Regular follow-up is required after stage III surgery for colon cancer to monitor changes in the condition and tumor recurrence. If recurrence occurs early, early treatment can be performed to further prolong survival time.

Although the cure rate of stage III colon cancer is relatively low, some patients can still achieve long-term survival or even clinical cure. You should maintain a positive attitude and cooperate with the doctor's treatment plan to obtain the best treatment effect.
