Is fever in the late stage of lung cancer good or bad?

If the fever in late-stage lung cancer is caused by cancer cell necrosis, it may be a good situation, but if the fever is caused by cancer, it may worsen the condition, which is a bad situation. It is recommended to seek medical attention in time and take appropriate treatment measures under the guidance of a doctor. The specific analysis is as follows:

1. Good situation: Cancer cell necrosis refers to the phenomenon that cancer cells are inhibited during growth and division, leading to cell death. When cancer cells are necrotic, some necrotic substances are released, which may cause fever after being recognized by the immune system. This fever usually indicates that the patient's immune system is working normally and is actively fighting cancer cells. This situation may have a certain positive effect on the patient's condition. On the one hand, the active immune system can further remove residual cancer cells, thereby reducing the size of the tumor and alleviating the condition. On the other hand, fever may also improve the patient's quality of life and alleviate some symptoms of advanced lung cancer, such as fatigue and pain.

2. Bad situation: In patients with advanced lung cancer, fever may be due to tumor-induced fever, also known as cancer fever. This fever is usually caused by the rapid growth of tumor cells, which release endogenous pyrogens such as tumor necrosis factor and interleukin and other inflammatory mediators, stimulating the brain's temperature regulation center. This fever is often low to moderate and is not accompanied by obvious chills or high fever. It may persist, leading to worsening of the disease and increasing the difficulty of treatment.

During the fever, patients should ensure adequate water intake and a light, easily digestible and nutritious diet. The intake of fruits, vegetables and seafood can be increased appropriately to provide necessary vitamins and minerals.
