How does thyroid cancer cause unstable blood pressure?

Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor originating from the thyroid follicular epithelium or parafollicular cells. There are many reasons for unstable blood pressure, including cardiac tamponade, secondary anemia, abnormal thyroid hormones, cervical lymph node metastasis, etc. It is recommended to find out the cause in time and take targeted measures according to the cause.

1. Cardiac tamponade: When thyroid cancer develops to the late stage, due to tumor infiltration and compression, it can cause cardiac tamponade. After cardiac tamponade, insufficient cardiac output may occur, leading to unstable blood pressure. In terms of treatment, cardiac decompression surgery should be performed in time, and plasma albumin should be infused to expand blood volume;

2. Secondary anemia: Thyroid cancer can lead to a lack of nutrients in the human body, especially in the case of long-term hypothyroidism, which can lead to insufficient hematopoietic raw materials, resulting in secondary anemia and unstable blood pressure. In terms of treatment, vitamin B12, folic acid and other drugs should be supplemented in time, and red blood cell transfusion should be given if necessary;

3. Abnormal thyroid hormone: abnormal thyroid hormone may lead to symptoms of hypermetabolism. Patients may experience symptoms such as heat intolerance, sweating, weight loss, hyperphagia, etc., and may also lead to unstable blood pressure. In terms of treatment, symptoms of hyperthyroidism should be corrected in time. Methimazole, propylthiouracil and other drugs can be used for treatment under the guidance of a doctor;

4. Cervical lymph node metastasis: When thyroid cancer metastasizes to the cervical lymph nodes, neck pain may occur, accompanied by swollen cervical lymph nodes, which may also lead to unstable blood pressure. In terms of treatment, lymph node dissection should be performed in a timely manner and combined with iodine-131 treatment.

For patients with thyroid cancer, early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment are key. If blood pressure is unstable, it is recommended to go to the hospital for examination in time and conduct targeted treatment after the cause is determined.
