What items are included in the half-yearly checkup for thyroid cancer

Thyroid cancer is a common malignant tumor of the head and neck. Patients usually need long-term regular checkups after surgical treatment. Within six months, neck ultrasound, blood tests for thyroid function, serum calcium and other items should be performed as required by the doctor. It is usually recommended to have a checkup every 3-6 months.

1. Neck ultrasound: including neck ultrasound and thyroid color Doppler ultrasound, which can observe the size, shape, internal structure and blood flow of the thyroid gland, and can determine whether there is lymph node metastasis or recurrence. It is a commonly used auxiliary examination in clinical practice;

2. Blood test for thyroid function: mainly including total T3, total T4, free T3, and free T4, which can clarify the status of thyroid function and rule out hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism;

3. Serum calcium: Since the thyroid gland can secrete parathyroid hormone, which regulates calcium and phosphorus metabolism in the body, patients may experience a decrease in serum calcium after surgery. A blood test can be done to determine whether there is hypocalcemia.

4. Other items: If you are undergoing radical surgery for thyroid cancer, you will need to complete chest CT, upper abdominal CT and other items within half a year to determine whether there is tumor metastasis. Some patients also need to complete bone scans, head MRI and other examinations, mainly to determine whether there is bone metastasis.

For patients who have undergone thyroid cancer surgery, they should also pay attention to adjusting their diet within half a year, avoiding spicy, greasy, and cold foods, and should focus on light and easily digestible foods, such as millet porridge, noodles, etc. They should also pay more attention to rest, avoid staying up late, overwork, and do not do heavy physical labor to prevent recurrence of the disease.
