Preventing prostate cancer teaches you how to start with diet

Prostate cancer is the most common malignant tumor of the male reproductive system. Its incidence increases with age. In some areas, its incidence rate is second only to lung cancer and ranks second in cancer deaths among men. In my country, the incidence rate of prostate cancer is showing a clear upward trend. To prevent prostate cancer, men should not only keep themselves clean, but also control their diet, starting with eating.

Eat more boron-rich foods

Boron is an element widely found in fruits and nuts. Men who consume adequate amounts of boron in their diet can reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Researchers compared the eating habits of 76 men diagnosed with prostate cancer with those of 7,751 healthy men. The analysis found that the richer the boron content in food and beverages, the greater the reduction in the risk of prostate cancer. This protective effect of boron is not affected by other risk factors such as age, smoking, obesity and race. Foods rich in boron include peanuts, apricots, grapes, dried fruits, avocados, red wine and grape juice.

Eat more tomatoes

Prostate cancer is related to the oxidative damage of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) caused by free radicals. Men who eat a bowl of spaghetti made with tomato sauce every day for more than three weeks can greatly reduce DNA damage and prostate-specific antigen (pSA) levels in the body. Researchers believe that tomatoes are rich in lycopene, which can offset the effects of free radicals. Lycopene has the strongest antioxidant properties among natural carotenoids. It has the functions of protecting genetic material DNA, inhibiting cancer cell proliferation and regulating hormone status. Its anti-prostate cancer effect has been confirmed by a large number of studies.

In fact, some plant compounds in a large number of fruits and vegetables have anti-cancer effects. Among them, lycopene is an important carotenoid, which exists in the fruits and vegetables we eat every day. Tomatoes, apricots, guavas, watermelons, papayas and red grapes all contain more lycopene, especially tomatoes. An adult can meet the body's need for lycopene by eating 100 grams to 200 grams of tomatoes every day, and cooked tomatoes are more easily absorbed by the human body.

Tomato and Cauliflower

Researchers have found that eating tomatoes and broccoli (also known as green broccoli), two foods that are considered to have anti-cancer effects, together can prevent prostate cancer better than eating either one alone. In animal experiments, the tomato and broccoli mixed food was made from fresh tomatoes and broccoli. Scientists believe that the lycopene in tomatoes can inhibit the secretion of male hormones and is effective in preventing prostate cancer, while broccoli also contains chemicals that can inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

The researchers suggest that elderly prostate cancer patients who are in the observation period and waiting for chemotherapy and radiotherapy should consider regularly eating tomatoes and broccoli in their daily diet, while adult men who are not ill can also use this method to prevent prostate cancer.

Tomato Tofu Soup

Scientists used genetic engineering to make mice susceptible to aggressive prostate cancer. They found that half of the mice that ate tomatoes and soy did not develop cancer by the end of the experiment. In contrast, all the mice that did not eat soy products or tomatoes eventually developed prostate cancer.

The results of the experiment showed that whether eating tomatoes, soybean products, or both together, the incidence of prostate cancer can be significantly reduced. However, eating both together was the most effective, with only 45% of mice developing prostate cancer. As for mice that ate tomatoes alone, the rate of prostate cancer was 61%. If mice ate soybean products alone, the cancer rate was 66%. Researchers suggest that men over 55 years old should eat three or four servings of tomato products a week and one or two servings of soybean products a day, which may prevent prostate cancer. Tomato and tofu soup is recommended.

Drink tea regularly

Tea is a common drink loved by Chinese people. Scientists have conducted research on tea and found that black tea and green tea can slow down the spread of prostate cancer, and black tea is more effective. Researchers believe that healthy eating habits, eating more vegetables and fruits, and drinking tea regularly will play a positive role in cancer prevention.

Drink milk in moderation

Milk can supplement calcium, and many people insist on drinking milk every day, especially some elderly people and children. However, studies have shown that men who drink milk frequently are more likely to get prostate cancer. Researchers in Philadelphia, USA, have also confirmed through epidemiological surveys over the past 10 years that eating more dairy products increases the risk of prostate cancer in men. Domestic studies have also found that milk intake is related to the incidence of prostate cancer, because some brands of milk have high hormone content. Therefore, in order to protect the prostate, men should drink milk in moderation and never drink it as a beverage.

Control diet to prevent obesity

Studies have shown that the incidence of prostate cancer in obese men is more than twice that of other men, and men who maintain their weight may reduce their risk of prostate cancer. There is no significant difference in the incidence of prostate cancer in overweight men with a body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 29.9, while obese men with a BMI of more than 30 have a 2.5 times higher risk of prostate cancer than other men. Therefore, changing the diet and taking other public health measures to prevent obesity can play a preventive role in prostate cancer.
