Knee ligament relaxation

Knee ligament relaxation

Ligament sprain and ligament relaxation are two phenomena that often occur in the human body. Especially for people who are learning to dance, ligament sprain is a common problem. Ligament sprain mainly refers to the ligament sprain around the knee. In older people, the ligaments around the knee will become loose. If the ligaments around the knee are loose, it will affect the normal use of the knee, so what are the solutions at this time?

How to determine whether the ligament is loose?

People with fork injuries are very afraid of ligament loosening, which makes them even more anxious when doing rehabilitation training. If the angle is lowered too quickly, I worry it will be loose; if I hear a snap after sliding, I worry it will be loose; if my legs become weak while walking, I worry it will be loose.

What needs to be clarified here is: Don’t worry, the above situations do not mean that your ligaments are loose. The speed of the angle reduction is related to physical fitness, preoperative rehabilitation and the speed of postoperative swelling reduction. The normal angle reduction method will not cause ligament relaxation. The popping sound inside the knee joint is usually caused by weak quadriceps muscles and abnormal patellar tracking. The sound is actually the sound of patella friction, not the sound of ligament being loosened. Limp legs are also a sign of weak or stiff muscles. Joint stability has not recovered and the joints cannot bear weight for a long time. The stability of the joints is maintained by muscles and ligaments, so don't be too scared.

If you feel that your ligaments are loose, you can go to the hospital for a physical examination, or use a special tibial anterior-posterior displacement examination device KT-1000. After fixing the femur, a fixed force is applied to the tibia to measure the exact result of tibial displacement and compare it with the healthy side. Never do the drawer experiment on yourself at home. Not only will you not get accurate results, but you may also strain the soft tissue of your knee joint due to incorrect movements.

What are the effects of ligament laxity?

The knee joint has a complex structure. There are joint capsules and many soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc. around the joint. Through the collaboration of these tissues, it bears the gravity of the entire torso, allowing people to move normally. Problems with any of these tissues will affect the stability of the knee joint. When the reconstructed anterior cruciate ligament becomes loose, the stability of the knee joint cannot be guaranteed, the load on other ligaments increases, and structures such as cartilage and meniscus will be subjected to more pressure and wear, leading to secondary diseases such as osteoarthritis. Therefore, the disease course of postoperative ligament laxity and conservative treatment after ligament rupture is similar, which is equivalent to a significant compromise in surgical outcomes.

Joint instability caused by ligament laxity is like walking on a tightrope with bare hands

The symptoms caused by knee ligament laxity are often difficult to detect, and by the time they are discovered, lesions have already occurred, such as meniscus wear and patellofemoral joint pain. At the beginning, the patient may feel soreness and swelling in the knee joint during exercise, which gradually turns into pain and may even be accompanied by local swelling. When patients feel pain, it often means that the joint cartilage has been severely worn. Faced with non-regenerative cartilage and severe pain, the only solutions to the problem are cartilage transplantation or knee replacement surgery.

A more serious problem is that once there is a problem with the knee joint, the adjacent joints of the hip and ankle will also be affected, causing changes in movement patterns, which in turn may induce diseases in other joints.
