Symptoms of Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer

Chief complaint:

Patients often present with a rapidly growing neck mass, accompanied by local malignant manifestations such as pain, dyspnea, hoarseness, and eating disorders.

Clinical manifestations:

1. Main manifestations Anaplastic thyroid cancer mostly occurs in the elderly, with an average age of over 60 years old, and a male-female ratio of about 1:1.5. Clinical manifestations are often the rapid development and enlargement of thyroid masses or nodules that have existed for many years, and in a short period of time, the bilateral thyroid glands are significantly enlarged, and even a huge hard mass in the neck is formed, with an uneven surface, fixed, and does not move up and down with swallowing, presenting a deformed neck. When invading the surrounding adjacent organs, it causes local malignant manifestations such as hoarseness, dyspnea, eating disorders, and Homer syndrome.

2. Secondary manifestations: Undifferentiated cancer cells grow rapidly, with severe local infiltration and distant metastasis, and hematogenous metastasis and lymph node metastasis can occur simultaneously at an early stage. Therefore, clinically, symptoms and signs of metastatic lesions in multiple organs can be manifested simultaneously, and the whole body condition rapidly deteriorates and fails, and the response to any treatment method is poor. In a short period of time, death occurs due to compression of the trachea and esophagus and extreme exhaustion.
