If you want to detect hypothyroidism early, you should pay attention to self-examination of thyroid disease

In real life, many people usually feel that there is nothing wrong with their bodies, and they don't usually have any discomfort in the throat. However, they were told that they had thyroid disease during a physical examination. Many people were surprised and worried after getting the test results. Will this turn into thyroid cancer? Is this serious? Today, let's take a look at how to self-check for thyroid disease. The thyroid gland is a small organ located in the front of the neck and below the larynx, about 2 to 3 centimeters below the thyroid cartilage (the thyroid cartilage is particularly prominent in men, also called the larynx). It is generally composed of a central isthmus and two left and right lateral lobes, shaped like an "H", like a butterfly, like a shield, which is how the thyroid gland got its name.

Although the thyroid gland is small, it has a great impact on human health. It is the largest endocrine organ in the human body. It not only synthesizes and secretes thyroid hormones, but also plays an important role in human metabolism. It is one of the hormones that is essential for maintaining life. Pregnant women who lack thyroid hormones will damage the fetus' nerves and affect the development of intelligence.

Without a properly functioning thyroid gland, living a healthy, normal, balanced life is nearly impossible. That’s because the gland, located at the front base of our neck, is responsible for producing the hormones our bodies need. These hormones help control metabolism and are the foundation upon which other vital organs of the body rely in order to work efficiently and properly. As such, thyroid disease is something we should take very seriously.

How to self-diagnose thyroid disease

1. Most people with thyroid disease will experience unexplained weight loss or gain, as well as symptoms of unexplained heart rhythm arrhythmia.

2. Some people may also have symptoms such as unexplained diarrhea and constipation, excessive sweating, heat intolerance, hand tremors, anemia, drowsiness, laziness, insomnia, and even unexplained menstrual disorders and infertility.

3. When self-checking for thyroid disease, the first thing to do is to observe whether the shape of the thyroid gland in the neck is abnormal. Generally speaking, if the thyroid gland is similar to a butterfly shape in appearance, it is normal. If there is a round lump in the thyroid gland, there is reason to suspect whether you have a thyroid cyst and thyroid cancer.

4. You can observe the size of the thyroid gland. A diseased thyroid gland usually has lumps, which are diffuse or multiple nodules. The cause of this situation is mostly endemic goiter.

5. The smoothness and hardness of the lump are also an indicator of self-examination. Touch the surface of the lump with your thumb and index finger. If the surface is smooth, it is a local goiter. If the surface is not smooth, the patient is more likely to suffer from thyroiditis.

It is worth noting that the incidence of thyroid diseases is increasing year by year. Abnormal thyroid function is closely related to many diseases such as cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, fertility disorders, digestive system diseases, etc., and it is closely related to living habits, mental stress and dietary factors. Therefore, in daily life, we should pay more attention to self-examination of thyroid diseases to avoid diseases that damage our health.

Compared with other cancers, thyroid cancer is a cancer with a very high cure rate. If it is discovered and treated in the early stages, the cure rate is even higher. To prevent thyroid cancer, you must eat more fresh vegetables and fruits in your daily life, so that the body can take in more vitamins and avoid nutritional deficiencies. I hope everyone can live a healthy life and stay away from the troubles of diseases.
