What test can accurately detect tongue cancer

What tests can accurately detect tongue cancer? Tongue cancer is a relatively unfamiliar type of cancer. Although there are many types of cancer, the incidence of tongue cancer is not very high, so people know less about this disease in their daily lives. So what tests can accurately detect the presence of tongue cancer?

What are the examination methods for tongue cancer?

1. CT examination

CT has a relatively low resolution for soft tissues, and small tumors or tumors in the tongue are difficult to display. It mainly shows the range of tumor infiltration and spread. It is the best method for diagnosing cortical bone invasion, reflecting the interruption or erosion of the cortical bone.

The normal tongue CT examination shows: with the midline, lingual septum and median suture as the midline, the bilateral structures are symmetrical, with oblique longitudinal strip-like low-density areas in between, which are the tongue intermuscular fat tissue, and the position and size are saddle-symmetrical.

The typical CT manifestations of tongue cancer are: round low or slightly high density areas in the tongue, ring-shaped enhancement, or uneven enhancement.

2. Routine X-ray Examination

Routine X-ray examinations can reveal the extent of mandibular bone destruction through mandibular surface films; chest X-ray examinations can determine whether there are metastatic lesions of cancer cells in the lungs.

MRI

MRI, also known as magnetic resonance imaging, has the advantages of high resolution, multi-plane, and multi-sequence imaging of soft tissues. It can display the entire situation of soft tissue lesions, and can also perform stereo positioning, and can display lesions at an early stage. It is better than CT in diagnosing vascular invasion and tumor staging, and is a better imaging method for the head and neck.

Tongue cancer can be easily detected based on MRI signal and morphological changes. Enhanced scanning can further clarify the tumor range and identify the histological nature of the tumor based on the enhancement curve over time.

IV. Laboratory Examination

Routine blood tests usually show no abnormalities, but patients with advanced tongue cancer often have changes such as erythropenia and accelerated erythrocyte sedimentation rate.

5. B-ultrasound examination

B-ultrasound examination can evaluate the shape, number, size and relationship of metastatic lymph nodes with important blood vessels in the neck. B-ultrasound images show that metastatic lymph nodes are mostly round and low-echoic, and sometimes have uneven echoes.

6. Pathological biopsy

Qualitative diagnostic criteria for tongue cancer. Under block anesthesia, cut 0.5cm-1cm tissue at the junction of normal tissue and tumor for biopsy. Do not suture too tightly and remove the suture as soon as possible. After the pathological biopsy confirms the diagnosis, surgical treatment should be performed as soon as possible.
