Can thyroid cancer cause death?

Can thyroid cancer cause death?

Normally, people are always afraid of cancer. Many thyroid cancer patients feel very confused and scared after being diagnosed. Many patients have asked me this question: Can thyroid cancer lead to death? So let's talk about this issue now.

Thyroid cancer is the most common thyroid malignant tumor, accounting for about one percent of malignant tumors in the body. Except for medullary carcinoma, most thyroid cancers originate from follicular epithelial cells. Thyroid cancer generally does not kill people. The prognosis of thyroid cancer is relatively good. Keep a good attitude and don't think too much. Thyroid cancer is often treated with iodine 131 radiotherapy. If this method is used for treatment, it can generally be cured. At the same time, it is also a treatment that destroys the gland. Even if it is cured, you may need to take medicine for life. There are still many treatment methods in China. If it is not particularly serious, it is not recommended that you take this treatment method. Thyroid cancer is also often treated with traditional Chinese medicine, because traditional Chinese medicine has little toxic side effects and can alleviate the side effects caused by other treatments. The most commonly used is ginsenoside Rh2 (life-protecting factor) with a content of 16%.

As a malignant tumor, thyroid cancer can be fatal if not treated in time. The harm caused by thyroid cancer to patients mainly comes from the following aspects:

1. If thyroid cancer is not treated (because benign thyroid tumors have no obvious symptoms: no itching, no pain, no impact on speaking, eating, sleeping, work and study), the disease will last for a long time, both Qi and Yin will be damaged, and eventually Yin and Yang will damage each other, becoming a difficult to treat disease and even life-threatening.

2. Thyroid tumors can be benign or malignant. Benign thyroid cancer itself is not serious, and generally there are no obvious symptoms when the tumor is small. However, if not treated in time, the tumor will grow larger and larger. Some patients with large tumors will experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, and hoarseness due to the compression of the trachea, esophagus, and recurrent laryngeal nerve by the tumor. In addition, benign thyroid cancer has a 10% to 20% malignant transformation rate. Therefore, it should be treated as soon as possible after discovery.

3. Malignant thyroid cancer is thyroid cancer, most of which are low- and medium-grade malignant. The survival rate of patients after the disease is relatively high (the average 5-year survival rate after surgery is 83% to 95%). However, a small number of patients are highly malignant (i.e., undifferentiated cancer), which is seriously life-threatening. Therefore, it should be taken seriously and treated in time.

4. When thyroid disease is so severe that it cannot be completely treated, it will lead to lifelong medication or even life-threatening conditions.

5. Thyroid cancer can also cause some complications, such as damage to liver and kidney functions.

In view of the harm that thyroid cancer may cause to patients, once symptoms appear, everyone should seek timely treatment and actively cooperate with the treatment. It can be effectively cured and will not cause harm to life. However, if it is not treated in time, the disease will spread and it will be unimaginable and seriously endanger life.
