Gynecologist explains the causes of teratoma

There are many types of tumors derived from the residual tissue of the urogenital embryo. Among them, benign tumors are often cysts, teratomas, and chordomas. Malignant tumors are seen in malignant teratomas, seminoma, embryonal carcinoma, malignant chordomas, etc. Among these tumors, teratomas are more common and can occur in multiple parts of the body, among which the sacrococcygeal region, mediastinum, retroperitoneum, ovaries, and testicles are the main sites of occurrence. This chapter mainly discusses the reasons why gynecologists interpret teratomas.

Causes

It is generally believed that teratomas originate from germ cells. Main basis:

(1) Teratomas are more common in infants or children, and adult teratomas may also originate in infancy.

(2) The tumor contains tissues from the three germ layers.

(3) The occurrence site of teratomas is mostly in the midline anterior axis of the embryonic cavity or in the area closely connected to the midline. At the same time, teratomas are true tumors rather than malformations, because the tumor develops continuously after maturity and there is no spinal tissue in the tumor. These characteristics are fundamentally different from teratomas. During embryonic development, some tissues or cells with omnipotent development potential separate or fall off from the whole. These detached cells can form teratomas with three germ layer tissues in the early embryo. Since the coccyx Henson's node is a site where pluripotent cells are concentrated, and the ovaries and testes contain primordial tissues, these sites are prone to teratomas.
