Dietary considerations for endometrial cancer

Dietary considerations for endometrial cancer

This is very important because obesity increases the risk of cancer patients recurring and reduces their survival rate. However, being too thin is also bad for health, and can lead to malnutrition, low immune function and other problems. Therefore, the daily energy intake should be based on maintaining an ideal body weight. The simple way to calculate ideal body weight is: height (cm) x 105, the difference is the ideal body weight (kg), and it is normal within a range of plus or minus 10%.

Limit your intake of fat to 20 percent of your calories, saturated fat to less than 10 percent of your calories, and trans fat to no more than 3 percent of your calories."

This article mainly restricts fat. This may be related to the fact that high fat suppresses immune function, affects the endocrine system, and produces carcinogenic compounds in the intestines. While controlling the total amount of fat, saturated fat cannot be consumed too much, otherwise unsaturated fat will be relatively insufficient. The latter contains essential fatty acids for the human body. If this fatty acid is missing, it can affect the metabolism of cholesterol and may also lead to skin diseases, fertility abnormalities, etc. Trans fats were not commonly known in the past. They are saturated fats that are relatively stable after hydrogenation of vegetable oils. They are usually called "artificial fats" and "margarine". The change we see with the naked eye is that liquid oil becomes solid. The most common is baked foods, such as biscuits, bread, potato chips, fried chicken... fast food contains them. Trans fats are relatively harmful to the human body, mainly manifested in: promoting arteriosclerosis and increasing the risk of coronary heart disease.

Eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as fish and walnuts."

The essential fatty acids in vegetable oils we usually use are divided into two categories, namely ω-3 and ω-6 fatty acids. Studies have shown that the ideal state is only when the ratio of ω-3 and ω-6 fatty acids in the diet is maintained at 1:4~6, and some vegetable oils basically do not contain ω-3 fatty acids. However, some animal and plant fats such as fish oil, seal oil, walnuts, etc. are rich in ω-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids are quite beneficial for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Eat foods that contain high-quality protein, such as fish, lean meats, poultry, nuts, seeds, eggs, and low-fat soy products and beans.”

Because cancer patients have high protein metabolism and decomposition, reduced anabolism and a negative nitrogen balance, their protein needs increase. Generally, the daily protein intake should reach 1.5 grams per kilogram of body weight, and high-quality protein should be the main source.

Eat foods rich in carbohydrates, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains and beans.”

These foods are rich in nutrients and contain carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber. They are the main source of calories in the body. This dietary structure based on plant foods is more beneficial to health.

Weigh the pros and cons of alcohol. Moderate drinking is good for your heart, but it can increase your cancer risk, so listen to your doctor’s advice.”

Drinking a small amount of alcohol can promote blood circulation and is indeed beneficial for heart patients, but it is very harmful to cancer patients because chronic drinking can lead to fatty liver, cirrhosis, and even liver cancer.

Don’t take too many vitamins. If you’re not eating right, taking a daily multivitamin supplement may help. But talk to your doctor before taking any supplements.”

Providing vitamins from food is the best choice, but if you can't or rarely eat, proper supplementation is beneficial. More and more studies have shown that several ingredients in standard multivitamin tablets, especially vitamin B6, B12, folic acid, and vitamin D, are basic elements for preventing cancer, heart disease and other diseases. It is worth noting that more vitamins are not necessarily better, because excessive amounts can also cause poisoning. Therefore, supplementation should be given according to the patient's specific situation, and it is best to consult a doctor.
