Low-fiber diet and colorectal cancer

Low-fiber diet and colorectal cancer

Among the causes of colorectal cancer, people are often more concerned about disease factors and environmental factors, but few people know that the occurrence of colorectal cancer is closely related to diet. In particular, people with bad eating habits are more likely to get colorectal cancer, so people should pay attention to their dietary health and develop good eating habits.

Many people have bad eating habits, for example, some people love to eat meat. It is generally believed that a diet high in animal protein, high in fat and low in fiber is a factor in the high incidence of colorectal cancer. It has been found that in areas with a high incidence of colorectal cancer, such as Western Europe and the United States, as the intake of high-cholesterol foods such as fat and protein in the diet increases, the number of people with colorectal cancer also increases accordingly. In addition, by observing the incidence of immigrants, the relationship between a high-fat, high-protein diet and the incidence of colorectal cancer has been further confirmed.

The occurrence of colorectal cancer has a certain relationship with the region, mainly because people in different regions have different eating habits. Studies have found that the incidence of colorectal cancer in Chinese and Japanese is relatively low, but the incidence of colorectal cancer in overseas Chinese and Japanese living in the United States has increased significantly, close to that of local people. The most obvious change in the living habits of these overseas Chinese is their dietary structure, which has changed from a high-fiber, high-carbohydrate diet to a high-fat, high-protein diet. Further studies have shown that compared with overseas Chinese and Japanese who have recently immigrated to the United States (who have not completely changed their eating habits), Americans have significantly higher levels of bile acid metabolites such as deoxycholic acid and lithocholic acid, and cholesterol metabolites in their stool, and these changes have been confirmed by animal experiments to lead to the occurrence of colorectal cancer. Increasing fiber intake can play an effective protective role.

It can be seen that bad eating habits are the cause of colorectal cancer, and it is the main cause. If people usually eat more high-animal protein, high-fat and other foods, the chance of getting colorectal cancer will increase. Therefore, people should develop the habit of light eating, especially middle-aged and elderly people.
