Pickled food. Studies have found that frequent intake of pickled food such as salted fish, pickled meat, and pickled vegetables is one of the causes of nasopharyngeal cancer. These foods contain high levels of nitrite, and high concentrations of nitrosamines and dinitrosopiperazines are precipitated during cooking. These compounds can induce cancer. Genetic factors.
