Advantages and disadvantages of local ablation for liver cancer

In recent years, local ablation therapy for liver cancer has achieved relatively significant clinical results and has become an important treatment method in the comprehensive treatment of liver cancer. Overall, local ablation therapy for liver cancer has advantages, but also has disadvantages.

Advantages of local ablation therapy for liver cancer:

① The trauma is small, the recovery is quick, and it can be repeated many times, so the patient's quality of life is relatively high.

② With definite efficacy, local ablation and surgical resection are known as the two “curative treatments” for liver cancer. Local ablation for small liver cancers in good locations can achieve the same therapeutic effect as surgical resection; if the operation technique is strong, large liver cancers and liver cancers in high-risk locations can also achieve satisfactory results.

③ Local ablation has relatively lower requirements on the patient's general condition and local liver conditions, making it suitable for a wider range of people than surgical resection.

④Currently, the technology of this treatment method is relatively mature and easy to promote.

⑤The treatment cost is moderate and the cost-effectiveness is relatively high.

Disadvantages of local ablation therapy:

①Compared with surgical treatment, this method is also limited by the patient's general condition and local liver conditions.

②The biggest factors affecting its therapeutic effect and safety are the location and size of the tumor.

③ Currently, there is still much room for improvement in local ablation technology, and it has high requirements on the physician's anatomical knowledge, operation level, imaging foundation, clinical diagnosis and treatment ability, and relies heavily on personal experience.

④There is currently a lack of standardized and systematic operating models; the perioperative management principles are not yet standardized.

⑤Lack of scientific and reasonable treatment norms and standards.

⑥ The composition of practicing doctors is complex, the entry threshold is too low, and there is a lack of systematic training. Therefore, the treatment effects of different hospitals and different doctors vary greatly.
