Treatment of rectal cancer

Treatment of rectal cancer

Different types of rectal cancer patients receive different treatments. Patients with milder conditions can receive chemotherapy to prevent the disease from worsening, while patients with more severe conditions need surgery. However, the common methods of treating rectal cancer are:

1. Early stage rectal cancer is mainly treated by surgical resection. If the entire cancer lesion is successfully removed, the patient's survival period can be prolonged. However, this surgery will damage the patient's body tissues and blood, leading to a weak constitution and easy recurrence, spread and metastasis of cancer. If the surgery is combined with traditional Chinese medicine to strengthen the body, it can improve the patient's diet and sleep conditions, which is very beneficial to preventing the recurrence and metastasis of cancer.

2. Although chemotherapy is also a treatment for rectal cancer, this type of treatment generally "does not distinguish between friend and foe", the toxic dose and the effective dose are very close, and the toxic side effects are also very strong. The digestive function is impaired and the bone marrow hematopoietic function is suppressed most obviously, making it difficult for patients to accept or persist in completing the entire course of treatment.

3. Since rectal cancer in the middle and late stages is easy to metastasize and spread, the success rate of surgical resection is not high. Even if surgery is performed, it can only be used for palliative local lesion resection. Therefore, in clinical practice, the treatment of rectal cancer in the middle and late stages often uses radiotherapy, or chemotherapy combined with traditional Chinese medicine, combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine.
