How to increase appetite in patients with gastric cancer

Gastric cancer patients often experience digestive discomfort symptoms such as loss of appetite and abdominal distension. If not taken seriously, the loss of appetite will gradually develop into anorexia, causing malnutrition, weight loss, fatigue, anemia, etc. So how can gastric cancer patients increase their appetite?

The most effective method is to change the menu frequently. For hospitalized patients, family members should provide different foods to patients as much as possible to avoid the same old food. For patients recovering at home, family members can choose to change the cooking method to make the food have different colors, flavors and aromas, or they can frequently change different foods to cook, which can increase the patient's appetite.

However, no matter what kind of food it is or how it is cooked, it must be cooked to a relatively well-cooked state so that the patient can better digest and absorb it.

In addition, patients should eat more fresh vegetables and fruits with high vitamin content, because such food can not only increase resistance, but also increase appetite. In the early postoperative period, due to gastrointestinal weakness, you can eat vegetable juice and easily digestible fruits, but not too much each time, and eat small meals frequently. After the gastrointestinal function is basically restored, you can eat some light and refreshing raw mixed vegetables and fruits, which have a significant appetizing effect, especially for patients during chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Eating on time is also a very good habit. Once the eating time becomes regular, at a specific time, the stomach and intestines will secrete digestive juices and move, and the stomach will feel hungry. The eating environment should be clean, quiet, and the air should be fresh. Through this series of efforts, gastric cancer patients will definitely have a good appetite.
