Misdiagnosed colon cancer

Misdiagnosed colon cancer

Mr. Wang from Anhui is 59 years old this year. When it comes to ulcerative colitis, he can’t avoid it more. Since Mr. Wang found out that he had ulcerative colitis at the age of 23, this disease has been like a sticky plaster. He has been treated and treated repeatedly for nearly 40 years.

The ulcer was well controlled with medication, but for some reason, it recurred three months ago. It was still the same diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, and fever. Mr. Wang went to the hospital as he was familiar with it, and after a series of routine examinations, he received routine treatment. Mr. Wang can be said to be an old friend of the gastroenterology department of the local hospital. But strangely, the treatment effect was not as good as before. Although this attack was considered a more serious one, with a little fever, fatigue, weight loss, and anemia, these had happened before, so why couldn't it be cured this time?

The doctors were also very puzzled. They knew that the department director would come to make rounds on Thursday. After looking at Mr. Wang's case, the director thought about it and decided to do a colonoscopy to tell the doctor not to be careless.

Mr. Wang has done a lot of colonoscopies. The resident doctor almost always recommends doing it. He didn’t do it before because he thought the problem was not serious. The colonoscopy showed that it was not just ulcerative colitis. The biopsy results came out and confirmed that it was ulcerative colorectal cancer, and it was already in the late stage.

This time, Mr. Wang finally understood why the treatment was useless. In fact, the doctor had told Mr. Wang before that if his ulcerative colitis persisted for a long time, it would very likely turn into cancer. Therefore, he should have regular checkups in order to detect cancer as early as possible and buy time for treatment. But this precious time was still ignored. Now Mr. Wang is receiving chemotherapy after surgery.
