Diagnosis methods for lung cancer in the elderly

Diagnosis methods for lung cancer in the elderly

Lung cancer seriously threatens the health of patients, especially the elderly, who are weaker and cannot bear the harm caused by the disease. If lung cancer is not treated in time in the early stage, it will eventually metastasize, and the patient will suffer more pain during chemotherapy and other treatments. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the diagnosis method of lung cancer in the elderly and diagnose the disease in time.

Lung cancer in the elderly is diagnosed as follows:

1. Sputum cytology

This type of examination is convenient and simple, with a high accuracy rate. It mainly examines the cancer cells that fall off the surface of lung cancer when the patient coughs up sputum, and ultimately finds the cancer cells to confirm the diagnosis. If an elderly patient has symptoms of coughing up blood and sputum for unknown reasons and the first examination does not find cancer cells, further examination is required to make an accurate diagnosis.

2. Imaging examination

It also occupies an irreplaceable position in the diagnosis of lung cancer in the elderly. It mainly performs chest X-ray diagnosis, which can detect different types of lung cancer in patients, making the treatment of the disease more targeted. Central and peripheral lung cancer can be diagnosed by observing X-rays.

3. Bronchoscopy and pleural effusion examination

These two tests are relatively common and can also make the diagnosis of the patient's condition more comprehensive. For patients with central lung cancer, bronchoscopy can be used to directly see the tumor in the bronchial cavity, and pleural effusion examination can be used to identify pleural effusion and detect cancer cells in a timely manner.

In summary, if elderly patients with lung cancer experience discomfort symptoms, it is necessary to promptly apply the lung cancer diagnosis method for the elderly for a comprehensive and accurate diagnosis so that the disease can be controlled in a timely manner and metastasis can be avoided.
