What is pomelo

The difference between pomelo and grapefruit

These two things are different. The pomelo sold in supermarkets nowadays is generally a mixture of grapefruit and citrus grown in China. The real grapefruit, also known as grapefruit, is the ripe fruit of the Rutaceae plant pomelo. In its place of origin in my country, this kind of grapefruit is also called Huyou. The seeds of this grapefruit were brought to Florida, USA by the Portuguese from Zhejiang Province in my country in the 1830s.

Nutrition of pomelo

Changshan pomelo is very rich in nutrients. According to the analysis of Nanjing Botanical Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, pomelo contains multiple vitamins and carotene, as well as amino acids needed by the human body. In addition, pomelo is also rich in iron, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and other inorganic components needed by the human body.

How to eat: The Changshan pomelo fruit is slightly bitter when it is just picked. After storage, the bitterness disappears naturally and the sweetness increases. It is generally best to start eating it in December. When eating, use a fruit knife to make a cross on the top of the fruit, then peel it, and remove the sponge layer adhering to the outside of the pods, then peel off the pods and tear open the pod skin, and eat the flesh, which is crisp and residue-free, refreshing and delicious.
