The function of the dermis

The function of the dermis

The skin is the largest organ in the human body, with an expanded area of about two square meters. It can effectively help people resist bacteria in the air and ultraviolet rays from the sun, and can also regulate body temperature, thus ensuring people's health. Human skin is generally composed of three layers: dermis, epidermis and subcutaneous tissue. Each layer of skin has its own function. So, what is the function of the dermis?

1. The dermis is one of the body's water reservoirs. If it is lower than the normal range, the skin will appear dry, wrinkled and dehydrated. It is rich in collagen fibers, elastic fibers, blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, nerves, glands, sebaceous glands, sweat glands, hair follicles, etc. They give the skin good flexibility and elasticity, and are also the place for metabolic exchange of nutrients.

2. The function of the dermis is to make the skin ductile and elastic, and it protects the capillaries, glands and various substances in the entire hair-like tissue of the dermis, allowing it to form ion channels in this part and form absorption channels for water and nutrients.

3. The dermis contains fibroblasts, mast cells, histiocytes, lymphocytes and a small amount of true bark mitochondria, melanophages and Langerhans cells. Fibroblasts can produce collagen fibers, elastic fibers, reticular fibers and matrix. At the same time, it is the main tissue repair cell after deep damage to the skin tissue.

4. The dermis is the connective tissue located under the epidermis, mainly composed of fibers, matrix and cells, in addition to blood vessels, nerves, sebaceous glands, sweat glands, hair follicles, etc. (It is composed of loose connective tissue and a large amount of adipose tissue, which has the function of heat preservation and buffering external shock.
