What is Rubella virus IgG

If a person's test result shows that the rubella virus IgG is positive, it means that the person has been infected with the rubella virus and has immunity, and the possibility of the fetus being infected is very small; if a person's test result shows that the rubella virus IgG is negative, it means that the person has not been infected with the rubella virus.

So, is it enough to just check the rubella virus IgG? The answer is no. If the rubella virus igg is positive, you also need to look at the rubella virus igm. If the rubella virus igm is positive, you need to get the live attenuated rubella vaccine and use contraception within three months after the vaccination. If the rubella virus igm is negative, you can rest assured that you can get pregnant.

The normal range of rubella virus is negative anti-rubella virus antibody IgM and negative anti-rubella virus antibody IgG; anti-rubella virus antibody IgM is mainly used to diagnose acute rubella virus infection, and anti-rubella virus antibodies usually appear in the serum 2 weeks after infection.

In addition, it should be noted that in the early stages of pregnancy, pregnant mothers should try to avoid going to public places as much as possible and avoid contact with rubella patients.

How is the rubella virus transmitted?

1. Source of infection:

Rubella patients, asymptomatic carriers and congenital rubella patients are all sources of transmission of the disease. The incubation period of rubella is 14 to 21 days.

2. Transmission channels:

It is mainly transmitted through airborne droplets and through the placenta to the fetus, and can also be transmitted through close contact between people. Newborns infected in the womb, especially in the throat, can excrete the virus for weeks, months, or even more than a year. Therefore, they can infect medical staff and family members who lack antibodies through contaminated bottles, nipples, clothes, diapers and direct contact, or cause transmission in the nursery.

3. Susceptible population:

The general population is susceptible to rubella virus and can acquire lasting immunity after infection. Infants under 6 months old rarely get the disease because they have antibodies from their mothers to gain immunity. Infants become susceptible within 1 year as the antibodies disappear with age, so the disease is more common in children aged 1-5 years. Most adults have antibodies but occasionally get sick. Women of childbearing age are more susceptible to rubella and have more lasting immunity after the disease.
