The female vagina is an open organ. Many women suffer from gynecological diseases. Gynecological diseases are difficult to cure completely and often recur. When many women who are troubled by this problem go to the hospital for consultation, the doctor will suggest that they do a cervical smear or CT scan to analyze the possibility of cervical cancer. So what do the inflammatory changes in CT mean in relation to this?

1. Some women have asked that during physical examination, it was found that the cervix had an inflammatory reaction. Does it need treatment and how should it be treated? I think this is a good question and I would like to talk about my opinion here.

2. Indeed, many women are found to have changes in reactive inflammatory cells in cervical smears during physical examinations, but they themselves have no symptoms of inflammation, such as itching, increased vaginal discharge, abnormal odor, etc. Does this condition require treatment?

3. First of all, we should understand the composition of leucorrhea. The components of leucorrhea include: secretions from the vaginal epithelium, which are the main substance that keeps the vagina moist; secretions from the cervical glands and endometrium, which are smaller in quantity and whose properties change with the different stages of the menstrual cycle; desquamated cells and white blood cells of the vaginal epithelium; secretions from the sebaceous glands of the labia minora; secretions from the Bartholin's glands, etc.

4. Secondly, we should understand the reporting format of liquid-based thin film examination results. In the column of reactive inflammatory cell changes, there are four items: "Inflammatory response, severe, moderate, mild, none". Based on the number or proportion of white blood cells and lymphocytes, the doctor will check one of the items: severe, moderate, mild, none.

5. Since white blood cells are one of the components of normal leucorrhea, all cervical liquid-based film examinations will contain white blood cells and will report different inflammatory reactions, either severe, moderate or mild. In other words, almost no woman would receive a report of no "reactive inflammation", even if she was a very healthy person. At least in my work, I have never seen a liquid-based film examination report that says “inflammatory response, no”.

6. At this point, it is clear to us that if "reactive inflammatory cell changes" appear in the liquid-based thin film examination report, no treatment is required, and it is wrong to use anti-inflammatory drugs, whether they are recommended by doctors or used by women themselves.

7. The function of white blood cells is to stand guard for us. When pathogenic microorganisms invade, they charge into battle for us. We need them, not expel them! What we need to expel are pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria (causing bacterial vaginitis), fungi (causing candidal vaginitis), Trichomonas (causing Trichomonas vaginitis), etc. If symptoms of vaginal inflammation occur, such as itching, increased vaginal discharge, abnormal odor, etc., and examination reveals the presence of bacteria, fungi, or Trichomonas, then treatment is needed. Depending on the different pathogenic microorganisms, antibacterial, antifungal, or antitrichomoniasis drugs should be used instead of treating "reactive inflammatory cell changes."
