1. What does glioma grade 1 mean?

What does glioma grade 1 mean? It is the lightest type of glioma and can be cured.

2. Glioma malignancy grading

The malignancy of glioma is divided into four levels. In clinical practice, the postoperative effects of gliomas with different malignancies are also significantly different. In particular, grade 3 and 4 tumors with higher malignancy are generally prone to recurrence after surgery and have poor treatment effects.

1. Grade one and grade two gliomas (low-grade gliomas): Surgery is the main treatment for tumors in non-functional areas. For patients under 40 years old who have undergone gross total resection, no additional treatment is required. Patients with incompletely resected tumors under 40 years old and patients around 40 years old should receive radiotherapy regardless of whether the tumors were completely resected.

2. Grade 3 glioma (anaplastic astrocytoma): Surgery is required to achieve histopathological diagnosis and reduce tumor volume. The patient should undergo radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

3. Grade IV glioma (glioblastoma multiforme): Surgery is also required to achieve histopathological diagnosis and reduce tumor volume. Postoperative radiotherapy.

III. Treatment of primary glioma in children

2. Chemotherapy, to shrink the tumor before surgery or to eliminate any remaining tumor cells after surgery.

The use of radiation depends on the type of glioma. It is often used in children with high-grade gliomas. However, we try to avoid using radiation in children with low-grade gliomas to avoid possible long-term side effects.
