Characteristics of dual personality

Characteristics of dual personality

Nowadays, due to the increasing pressure of life, people are more and more likely to suffer from various mental illnesses. However, mental illnesses are not as obvious as other diseases, and people around them often cannot understand them. Multiple personality disorder is a very serious mental illness. Patients with this disorder often exhibit two different personality traits, which generally change when stimulated by external factors. So what other characteristics do people with dual personality have?

1. Concept:

Dual personality refers specifically to a psychopathic phenomenon in which a person has two relatively unique and separate personalities, with the original/initial personality as the main personality and the split/derived personality as the sub-personality. It is called dual personality and is a hysterical dissociative psychological disorder. Also called dissociative identity disorder.

2. Performance:

1. The basic characteristic of dual personality is that although the same individual has two or more completely different personalities, only one of them is obvious at a certain time.

2. Each personality is complete, with its own memories, behaviors, preferences, and can be completely opposite to the single pre-morbid personality.

3. Multiple personality can include dual personality, triple personality, quadruple personality, etc. So far, the maximum number of personalities can reach 24. Among them, dual personality is relatively common, and usually one of them is dominant, but neither personality can enter the other's memory, and they are almost unaware of the other's existence.

4. The transition from one personality to another is usually sudden at first and closely related to traumatic events; thereafter, the transition generally occurs only when encountering major or stressful events, or receiving relaxation, hypnosis or catharsis treatments.

3. Solution:

1. Reduce or ease the pressure on personal living and working environment and improve living conditions. In essence, multiple personality disorder is a defense against environmental stress.

2. Behind multiple personalities lies a strong sense of inferiority and fragility. Therefore, we should pay attention to gradually cultivating our own self-confidence and self-reliance. Start small and build up a sense of success.

3. Give patients enough satisfaction and sense of security.

4. Communicate more with the patient and guide him to establish friendships with friendly people.

5. Provide children with a warm family environment and prohibit domestic violence. Disharmony in family relationships can easily cause personality disorders in children, and in severe cases lead to multiple personality disorder.

It was previously believed that the prevalence of multiple personality disorders in the population was very low. But recent discoveries suggest that multiple personalities are not actually that uncommon. This disease is more common in women, and its incidence rate is usually three to nine times that of men.

Multiple personality disorder is often caused by emotional trauma, especially childhood trauma. Its treatment methods include Gestalt therapy, psychoanalysis, supportive therapy, etc. However, all therapies cannot be separated from the long-term and patient cooperation of family, friends, colleagues and others. During treatment, it is especially important to avoid irritating the source of the disease.

The transition from one personality to another is usually sudden at first and closely related to a traumatic event; thereafter, it generally occurs only in response to a major or stressful event or in response to relaxation, hypnosis, or catharsis treatments. In fact, pure multiple personality phenomenon is very rare, and similar cases have already appeared in China. It is a more serious mental illness.
