How to make children pay attention in class

How to make children pay attention in class

China's exam-oriented education determines that the main goal of children under the age of eighteen is to study. Therefore, the performance of children in school is a matter of great concern to many parents. Children's daily listening habits are often linked to their test scores. Children who listen carefully in class are more patient and often have better academic performance. So, what should parents do to get their children to pay attention in class?

How to deal with children's inattention in study

1. Don’t bring any extra items to school

This kind of miscellaneous items refers to toys, snacks, etc. If students bring these things to class, even if they do not take them out directly in class, they will be thinking about them, and it will be easy for them to be distracted during class.

2. Listening posture should be correct

When at home, be conscious of correcting your child's sitting posture. For example, when eating, tell your children how to sit and ask them to sit upright. Don't let your children develop the habit of supporting their chins or crossing their legs. Don't sit like an armchair or lean sideways. These postures will more or less slack off students' thinking and eventually lead to distraction.

3. The pen must be held in your hand

With the pen in your hand, you can take notes at any time. For advanced students, note-taking becomes increasingly important. In addition to taking notes, some teachers have done some simple tests and observations and found that a large number of students are very easily distracted when they don't hold the pen.

4. Follow the teacher with your eyes

I want my children to concentrate and focus. How to do it? Your eyes and brain should follow the teacher's actions. If the teacher asks you to read, you read; if he asks you to think, you think. Don’t communicate with classmates. If you have any questions, circle them or make a note of them first. Communicating with classmates not only interrupts yourself but also interrupts your classmates' listening, and also disrupts the order of the class. If you follow the teacher with your eyes, you can feel that the teacher is communicating with you all the time. This can help concentrate the mind and increase interest in listening. If you are distracted, the teacher can actually tell, and a responsible teacher will remind the students.

What to do if your child doesn't listen in class

1. Make a reasonable study plan

Help your child set a goal and work with him to develop a study plan. Supervise your child to implement his/her study plan. During the implementation of the plan, promptly discover the child’s progress and give praise. When a child encounters difficulties, encourage him to overcome them and provide appropriate help if necessary.

2. Necessary preparation before class

Basic requirements: Read the textbooks carefully, understand the content of the textbooks, think about the key points of the content, identify the difficulties in learning, and be prepared to listen to the lectures. When children are reading materials carefully, if they encounter words they don’t recognize or understand, they must look up reference books and try to learn them on their own. Mark the content you don’t understand with a pencil and be prepared to listen to the teacher’s explanation in class.

3. Listen carefully to the 40-minute class

Tell your children to remember the key points and difficult points clearly, to force them to memorize the basic knowledge, definitions and theorems, and to master the steps and methods for solving example questions. There are generally three reasons why children do not listen carefully: they simply cannot understand, they have poor self-control, and they lack interest in learning. Parents should address these reasons. Encourage children to actively participate in interactions in class. When the teacher evaluates other students' answers, they should evaluate how they themselves have done, affirm their strengths, find their shortcomings, and motivate themselves.

4. Improve the quality of work

The requirements for doing homework are to read the questions carefully, copy them accurately, sort out your thoughts, get them right the first time, and check them carefully. When parents find mistakes after checking their children's homework, they should not directly tell their children where the mistakes are, but let the children check their own work.
