How to treat foot drop

How to treat foot drop

Foot drop is a very common phenomenon in life. Most cases of foot drop are caused by reduced strength of the foot muscle groups and spasms of the calf triceps. If the foot drop is mild, it can be treated through rehabilitation training. If it is more serious, it requires surgery. Patients with foot drop must supplement calcium in their daily lives. So how to treat foot drop?

Foot drop, also known as toe drop, is a symptom caused mainly by reduced strength of the foot muscles and spasm of the calf triceps, which makes the ankle joint unable to dorsiflex. Due to the rush to exercise, nerves are damaged, muscles are malnourished, and long-term joint flexion and extension cause deformities, which increases the degree of stiffness and changes in the muscle structure around the joints, leading to soft tissue defects. Due to the hyperplasia of the articular process joint, the internal and superior disc herniation, calcification occurs, water loss occurs, and the posterior calf muscles change, which will eventually cause foot drop.

Steps/Methods:

Once you suffer from foot drop, you can use warm therapy to treat it. You can soak in hot water for about half an hour, and do more rehabilitation exercises with massage. You can use acupuncture or massage, or wear a brace, and then use professional treatment methods for foot drop in the later stage.

If the symptoms are severe, surgical removal is required for treatment. You must be careful not to stand for long periods of time and get more rest. Pay attention to preventing infection from trauma and wear comfortable shoes. Don't walk too much, get enough sleep, and do more warm massages.

If foot drop persists for a long time, it will lead to secondary ischemic calf muscle atrophy and cause disability, so early treatment is necessary. It can be treated through nerve transplantation surgery. You should also pay attention to your walking posture. It must be correct. You can soak your feet in warm water and then in hot water repeatedly.

Note:

In normal times, wear comfortable shoes, don't walk too much, pay more attention to rest, supplement nutrition and calcium, drink more milk, eat more eggs, drink more bone soup, and try not to walk on uneven roads.

How to prevent foot drop

1. Women should pay attention to their diet during pregnancy and develop good living habits to avoid having their babies born with foot deformities.

2. Pay attention to nutritional health during childhood.

3. Eat well in your daily life and exercise moderately.

4. Prevention in the preschool period is mainly about developing good eating habits and not being picky about sugar, high-fat, and high-calorie foods. Develop the habit of participating in various physical activities and labor. For example, try not to take a car when you can walk, and climb the stairs instead of taking the elevator when going up and down stairs for healthier searches. Develop the habit of doing some physical exercise every day. The development of the above habits has a significant impact on the life style of a lifetime, especially preventing a sedentary lifestyle in adulthood. 5. Prevention during the pre-pregnancy/pregnancy period: During this period, try to avoid unbalanced nutrition and eating, and avoid overeating. Avoid undernutrition during the first three months of pregnancy and overnutrition and rapid weight gain during the last three months of pregnancy. High-calorie, high-fat foods are not so-called "tonics". Vitamins, trace elements and minerals are more beneficial than fats. High-quality protein must be added.

6. Prevent and treat nerve root compression, which may cause peripheral nerve or spinal nerve damage.

7. Actively and systematically exercise to enhance physical fitness, which is the first important factor in disease prevention. Ensure adequate sleep and keep the indoor air fresh and the temperature appropriate when sleeping. Make full use of sunbathing, air bathing and water bathing.
