Gout is a very common disease among middle-aged and elderly people. Once gout occurs, it will cause great pain to the patient, so timely treatment is needed. However, there are also many gout patients who experience repeated attacks after the disease is cured. This may be caused by incomplete treatment or by not using the right medicine. Below, we will introduce to you the reasons why gout recurs. 1. The biggest cause: stress and fatigue Doctors investigated and analyzed 86 patients with relapses and the results showed that the factors causing recurrent gout attacks are, from high to low: mental stress (28 cases), excessive fatigue (20 cases), diet (18 cases), environmental factors (9 cases), trauma (5 cases), and surgery (3 cases). Different occupations have different causes of recurrent gout attacks. The recurrence of white-collar workers and government officials is most closely related to mental stress; the recurrence of farmers and businessmen is related to diet, and the recurrence of workers and drivers is related to fatigue. In addition, people with hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia are prone to recurrent gout attacks. Mental stress and excessive fatigue have gradually replaced dietary factors and become the main cause of recurrent gout attacks. 2. Acid-lowering drugs - also causing trouble Many friends who suffer from gout have this experience: after taking acid-lowering drugs or products that dissolve uric acid crystals, gout that had not been occurring before suddenly flares up. What is going on? Gout attacks are caused by the accumulation of urate crystals in the body. When the uric acid concentration in the human blood suddenly decreases, the crystallized urate will fall off, just like a snowman in winter. When the temperature rises, the snowman will melt and the snow residue will fall off bit by bit. We compare this snow residue to urate crystals. The urate crystals that fall off will recrystallize in other joints, which will immediately alert the body's immune system and cause gout to attack again. Therefore, in many gout treatment guidelines, patients are advised to take small doses of painkillers with fewer side effects while taking acid-reducing drugs to relieve pain during recurrent gout attacks. 3. Irregular treatment of patients Often manifested as: 1. Not paying attention to early treatment. 2. Treat only during the gout attack period. 3. Long-term abuse of painkillers and glucocorticoids. 4. Being too afraid of the side effects of the drugs and being unable to adhere to the standardized treatment of blood uric acid levels. 5. Overly controlling your diet. 6. Not paying attention to non-drug treatments (diet, exercise, follow-up examinations). The result is repeated attacks of gout, persistent arthritis, kidney stones, tophi, and even serious irreversible complications such as hypertension, diabetes, renal insufficiency and uremia. Therefore, it is necessary to standardize the treatment of gout, cure gout, avoid complications, and improve the quality of life. |
