Medicine for facial paralysis

Medicine for facial paralysis

Facial paralysis is a relatively common disease and a health problem that many people have. After the symptoms of facial paralysis appear, you must go to the neurology department of the hospital for treatment in time. There are many ways to treat facial paralysis, such as taking appropriate medications, self-massage or diet therapy. Next, I will introduce to you the treatment methods for facial paralysis!

1. Medication treatment

The basic principle is to treat the cause of the disease. In addition, you can try combined Chinese and Western medicine and physical therapy. Massage or electrical stimulation of the paralyzed muscles can maintain their tone, and surgery may also help.

Some scholars recommend the use of hormones to treat facial nerve paralysis to relieve nerve edema. However, since almost all patients experience spontaneous remission and there are no reports of adequate therapeutic control trials to verify the results, the efficacy of this method has not been confirmed. Acyclovir treatment has also not been proven. Some otologists recommend intracranial nerve decompression to promote functional recovery in facial nerve palsy. There is no good evidence to support that this treatment changes the course of the disease, and the surgery itself has risks, so many surgeons have stopped performing this surgery.

2. Self-massage for facial paralysis

1. Preparation. If you are lying in bed, use a good pillow; if you are sitting, lean your head against the wall. The patient concentrates his mind and eliminates distracting thoughts. Before massage, apply hot compress or soak a towel in Chinese herbal decoction (9 grams of cinnamon twig, 9 grams of saposhnikovia divaricata, 9 grams of perilla leaf) for hot compress. Be careful not to get the medicine into your eyes accidentally.

2. Circularly scrape the eyelids. Use the ribbed surface of the index and middle fingers of both hands as the surgical tips, scrape the upper and lower eyelids evenly from the inner canthus to the outside 50 times each, and then gently rub the eyelids 20-30 times.

3. Rub the wings of your nose with your fingers. Use the ribbed surface of the index fingers of both hands as the surgical tip, rub from both sides of the root of the nose downward to the Yingxiang points on both sides of the nose wings 50 times, and gently press and rub the points for 1-2 minutes (Yingxiang point is 0.5 cm away from the nose wings). Press with the fingertips from light to heavy gradually to cure symptoms such as crooked mouth and nasal congestion.

4. Press and pinch the Sibai point. This point is located in the depression of the infraorbital foramen, directly below the pupil. Use your index finger as the tip to pinch the Sibai acupoint, gradually applying pressure while pinching. Last for 1-2 minutes.

5. Rub the cheek car and dicang points with your palms. Place the thenar muscle of the same-side hand against the cheek-cartilage point (massage muscle) on the affected side, rub and move to the dicang point (0.5 cm away from the corner of the mouth), and repeat 50 times.

3. Diet therapy for facial paralysis

1. Fangfeng porridge

10-15 grams of Saposhnikovia divaricata, the stems of scallion, and 30-60 grams of polished rice. Boil the first two ingredients in water to extract the juice, remove the residue, and cook the polished rice into porridge. When the porridge is almost done, add the juice and cook it into a thin porridge. Drink it warm. This prescription can dispel wind, relieve exterior symptoms and relieve cold, and is suitable for facial paralysis and muscle soreness caused by wind-cold attacking the meridians.

2. Mints

30 grams of lotus root powder and 500 grams of white sugar. Put the white sugar into the pot, add a little water, and simmer until it becomes thick. Then add the peppermint powder, adjust the spoon, and continue to simmer until it is no longer sticky. This recipe has the effect of dispelling wind and heat, and relieving exterior symptoms with spicy and cool taste. It is effective for sudden facial paralysis, incomplete eyelid closure, dry throat and slight thirst.
