What medicine should I take if I am infected with Norovirus

Norovirus is a very common virus and is also a virus that can be transmitted through certain routes. When infected with the norovirus, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea usually occur. Some patients may also experience problems such as headaches and muscle pain. In order to restore your health, you must seek timely treatment. So, what medicine should you take or what treatment measures should you take after being infected with the norovirus?

1. Clinical symptoms

The incubation period is usually 24 to 48 hours, with the shortest being 12 hours and the longest being 72 hours. The infection occurs suddenly, with the main symptoms being nausea, vomiting, fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Vomiting is common in children, while diarrhea is more common in adults, with 4 to 8 episodes of diarrhea within 24 hours. The stool is loose or watery, without mucus, pus or blood. Routine stool microscopic examination showed WBC<15 and no RBC. Patients with primary infection have significantly more vomiting symptoms than those with secondary infection, and some infected patients only show vomiting symptoms. In addition, symptoms such as headache, chills and muscle pain may also be seen, and in severe cases, dehydration symptoms may occur.

2. Treatment Methods

There is currently no specific antiviral drug. Symptomatic or supportive treatment is the main treatment. Antibiotics are generally not required, and the prognosis is good. Dehydration is the main cause of death from Norovirus-induced diarrhea. Severe cases, especially young children and the weak, should be given timely infusion or oral rehydration to correct dehydration, acidosis and electrolyte imbalance.

3. Transmission channels

Norovirus can be found in the stool and vomit of infected people. You can get norovirus in several ways: eating food or drinking beverages contaminated with norovirus; touching objects or surfaces contaminated with norovirus and then touching your hands to your mouth;

Direct contact with an infected person (such as caring for a sick person, eating with a sick person, or using the same eating utensils as the sick person).

Food and drink can easily become contaminated with norovirus because the virus is very small and it takes less than 100 viruses to make a person sick. Food can be contaminated directly from contaminated hands, surfaces contaminated with vomit or feces, or through small droplets of nearby vomit. Although viruses are difficult to reproduce outside the human body, they can cause illness once they are present in food or water.

Some foods may be contaminated before they reach restaurants or stores. Some outbreaks have resulted from eating oysters caught from contaminated water. Other products such as salads and frozen fruit may also be contaminated at source.
