The place where the rabies vaccine was given is red and swollen

In daily life, if you are bitten or scratched by small animals such as dogs, you should get a rabies vaccine in time. However, everyone's physical condition is different. Some people may be allergic to rabies vaccines, and their skin may become red and swollen after the injection. This is quite serious, so you should pay attention to disinfecting and sterilizing your child’s wounds regularly. But some children may not have too many problems, so it depends on the individual. So what should you do if the area where you received the rabies vaccine becomes red and swollen?

It may be that there is a problem with the depth of the injection, which leads to local lumps, but it does not affect the effect of the vaccination. Generally speaking, it may take a few days to slowly subside. Relatively speaking, no treatment is required. If the swelling and pain are more obvious, you can consider cold compress within 24 hours. If it exceeds 24 hours, you can also consider hot compress to improve it.

Let’s first talk about situations where rabies vaccination is not necessary.

First of all, if a cat or dog has been vaccinated twice or more and the most recent vaccination was within a year, it is basically considered to be free of the possibility of carrying the virus. Secondly, dog scratches may become infected, but the chance of infection from cat scratches is almost zero. No vaccination is required for bites from monkeys, mice, rabbits, hamsters, birds, fish, insects, etc.!

So, in what situations do you need to be vaccinated?

First of all, if the wounds on your body are licked by cats or dogs, they should be treated the same as being bitten by them, and there is a possibility of infection with the virus. Secondly, if you are bitten by wild animals, such as wolves, badgers, etc., you must get vaccinated! Generally speaking, the sooner the vaccine is given, the better. However, it does not mean that the injection will be completely ineffective 24 hours after the bite. Once the animal that hurts people is found to be abnormal, the vaccine must be given as soon as possible before the bitten person becomes ill.

If someone is bitten but has not been vaccinated, they can lock up the animal that hurt them and observe it for 10 days. If the animal still shows no abnormalities after 10 days, it can be determined that it is completely safe. If you find that an animal is going crazy during observation, you need to go to the hospital for vaccination immediately!
