What is the reason for cold thighs

If you feel cold legs, you should pay attention to the problems with the blood vessels in the lower limbs, especially the arteries in the lower limbs. Are there possibilities of arterial stenosis, arteriosclerosis, etc.? Cold lower limbs may be caused by poor blood circulation, which may be due to yang deficiency. If you currently have some symptoms of cold thighs, let's learn about the specific causes and preventive measures below.

Causes

Epidemiological surveys show that smoking, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, hyperhomocysteinemia, hypercoagulable state, increased blood viscosity and advanced age are risk factors for lower limb arteriosclerosis obliterans. Among them, smoking and diabetes are the most harmful. Both can increase the incidence of peripheral arterial disease by 3 to 4 times, and the risk is even higher when they occur together. The second is hyperlipidemia, especially increased blood low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, which is closely related to the occurrence of atherosclerosis in multiple parts of the body. Timely detection and control of risk factors that lead to arteriosclerosis can delay the progression of arteriosclerosis and reduce the risk of lower limb arteriosclerosis obliterans.

Clinical manifestations

Lower limb arteriosclerosis obliterans is generally seen in middle-aged and elderly people, often accompanied by risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. The presence and severity of symptoms of lower limb arteriosclerosis obliterans are affected by many factors, including the rate of disease progression, the amount of collateral circulation, and the individual's tolerance. Symptoms generally develop gradually from mild to severe, but when acute thrombosis occurs on the basis of arteriosclerosis obliterans, symptoms may suddenly worsen.

There may be no obvious symptoms in the early stages, or only mild discomfort, such as chills and fever. Afterwards, intermittent claudication symptoms gradually appear, which is a characteristic symptom of lower limb arteriosclerosis obliterans. The symptoms are fatigue and soreness in the affected limb after walking for a certain distance, and the patient is forced to rest for a period of time. The symptoms can be completely relieved after resting, but will reappear after walking again. The walking distance and rest time of each time are generally fixed. In addition, the location of soreness is correlated with the location of vascular lesions. As the lesion progresses, rest pain will occur, that is, pain in the extremities occurs when the patient is resting, which is more likely to occur when lying flat or resting at night. Eventually, ulcers and gangrene may develop in the limbs, often triggered by minor limb injuries.

prevention

The prevention of this disease mainly lies in strictly controlling the risk factors of atherosclerosis, such as strictly monitoring and controlling blood pressure, blood sugar, blood lipids, and strictly quitting smoking, which can delay the progression of atherosclerosis, reduce the incidence of lower limb arteriosclerosis, and prevent the occurrence of adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events.

1. Patients with one or more of the above risk factors should be monitored more closely to promptly detect, diagnose and treat possible arterial stenosis and occlusive lesions.

2. For patients who have developed lower limb arteriosclerosis obliterans, they should strengthen exercise, strictly use medication, and strengthen foot care at an early stage to avoid skin damage and trauma, etc., to prevent the condition from worsening.

3. For patients who have undergone surgery or treatment, the above preventive measures must still be applied to prevent restenosis of blood vessels at the surgical site and arterial lesions in other parts of the body.
